So I failed to appear to my first jury summons. I really don't feel like going. As far as I'm concerned I did not receive this summons in certified mail. Can I just say I never got a letter. there is no proof i did.

Not many people really want to go to jury duty. But we go because it is our civic duty. You might even find it to be a rewarding experience.

Doesn't matter, it is assumed that you got it. Lying about it would just be worse. Not going is a criminal infraction and you can be held in contempt of court and/or fined. Oh, and getting fined doesn't stop them from being able to summon you again. They might not actual send you a notice but it will go on record and if you ever get a speeding ticket or something... my advise is just go. It might fun for you. It might be boring, but it is your duty as a citizen.

You should try that with eviction notices and credit judgements.

You must be the first person to ever think of this. My hat is off to you.

    I just went on Wendsday.

People like you chap my @ss. I hope they give you the full $1,000 fine.

As far as I'm concerned, the constitution should be amended so that people who skip jury duty don't have the option of a jury trial. See what you think of jury duty after a visit to the Star Chamber.

Go to jury duty. Just bring your Gameboy along to occupy your time.

just go to jury duty. there are a few easy things you can say in order to get excused by lunchtime and be done with it all. but like others have said, you might find it interesting.

Have they seriously never taught you ANYTHING in school?

It's the law, dude, you don't have the option of not going, unless you meet some very specific requirements. And even then you have to submit the form for approval.

You call them up and apologize and ask for a new date. They will bend over backwards to accomodate you, because they know how much of a pain in the a$$ it is, but you are not the One Special Person who was born with the God-given right to ignore jusry duty. You go and do it just like everyone else has to when they are called.

Funny, they don't send criminal defendants notice to appear by certified mail either. Yet, most judges still revoke their bonds when they don't appear in court, and most DA's offices still file Failure to Appear charges.

Don't try to BS anyone in a courthouse. Most court staff and judges get lied to multiple times a day, and they will rock your world if they catch you in a lie.

Interesting. I've never gone to jury duty. Been threatened several times, as well.

    I'm not wasting my time.

Jury duty is for suckers. All you have to do is re-register to vote.

Hiding behind your computer is awesome.

At least I'm honest. Probably why I'll be Houston's mayor in a few years.

You'd make a terrible juror, anyway, if you're in real life anything like your persona here.

Hope you don't ask for a jury trial next time you pick up a DWI.

Please, keep admitting to crimes on an internet message board which you've also readily linked to your actual name.

Remember, Marion Barry was re-elected DC's mayor after he was caught smoking crack. Re-elected. In a political career, you usually have to get elected first, before you can admit to your complete indifference to civic duty.

That order is kind of important: voter apathy goes hand-in-hand with incumbency only.

I do applaud you for trying to break new ground on the traditional order, though.
