As I understand it, Jones has filed for bankruptcy, so all attempts to collect on the judgment will go through the bankruptcy court. It appears that the verdicts against Jones fall under the heading of intentional torts, which means they can’t be discharged as a liability in bankruptcy. The bankruptcy judge should/will require the submission of a complete inventory of Jones liabilities and assets. The premise of bankruptcy (assuming it is a liquidation not a reorganization) is that he does not have sufficient assets to cover his liabilities.

I’m sure lawyers will fight over the sufficiency of the disclosures and will chase his assets. All his assets will be frozen. I’ve read that he transferred some of his assets to others, like an ex wife. That can and likely will get challenged as illegitimate, and there will be proceedings to determine if they were bona fide sales in good faith, or fraudulent transfers to evade his judgment creditors.

There will be a long list of creditors, with the creditors with a security interest (like a bank with a mortgage) getting priority. The Sandy Hook families will be unsecured creditors. Once the secured creditors are paid, some division of the remaining assets will occur and get paid out.

There should be an order that allows the bankruptcy court to monitor future earnings for distribution to creditors like the Sandy hook families, Hopefully they bleed him dry and he cannot live more than a basic life.

Difficult to tell who is worse. One who does direct harm and murder or one who creates an army of unhinged lunatics to walk around the world?

Lol. You guys are ridiculous. Guess what? You are part of another army of unhinged lunatics. Alex Jones is an idiot. No question about that. A guy who killed two people and basically decapitated them is worse.

It's a debate about numbers. Is murdering 2 people cold blooded worse than creating an entire culture of unhinged lunacy that generated things like targeted haarrasment campaigns towards parents that lost children in mass shootings.

Yes because Alex Jones is an idiot troll and had to file bankruptcy so his career is over. Garbage human being. OJ literally killed two people. That's not even close to comparable.

OJ Simpson was found not guilty. While most of us agree that was likely a miscarriage of Justice that showed thet the civil case wasn’t as cut and dried. Also OJ Simpson hasn’t been able to profit off of what he did. Alex Jones has a made a lot of money since Sandy Hook.

It's impossible to put a number of the emotional distress he created for these poor families as part of his deranged act. I think the point was to prevent him from financially profiting from his malicious lies going forward.

Is this an infringement on his civil rights? Maybe a libertarian law expert like @StupidMoniker can comment.

I don’t think he’s ruined. This kind of person knows how make himself look like a victim. He’s probably more popular than ever with the MAGA crowd.

Could he go to another country and just continue profiting off of morons?

They’re gonna have to take his assets and future earnings in order to pay these families, no? He owes a billion with another trial still to go

U think he’ll manage to squirm his way out of it?

I don’t think he got a lot of money off of those books. Yes OJ Simpson is a horrible person and rightfully should be in jail. We’re just explaining the differences in compensation.

anyway you agree that Alex Jones is a terrible person. So you also agree he’s made a lot of money off of the pain and suffering of others so he should pay a large compensation?

Dismissing the damage done by someone like Jones as just an idiot troll also shows how unhinged you are.

Dude had millions of followers he convinced that our government either fakes children's deaths or murders children in mass to justify gun regulations. He also spread conspiracy theories about pedo rings that lead to attempted terrorist acts. I'm sure some of his messaging was heard by people like the Walmart mass shooter or the Christ Church mass shooter. His rhetoric has resulted in parents who lost their kids being constantly harrased along with death threats.

OJ caused pain to two families. Jones has caused pains to hundreds of families

I was thinking of the Vincent Chin case where while his murderers where found guilty his family did win a civil case. They have never collected and the murderers have also said they would never pay. I think they did end up fleeing the country to avoid paying

It seems rather pointless to debate whether OJ or Jones is a more despicable person, or which of them caused more harm. I think it is a more useful exercise to ask @Commodore why he posted a tweet about the verdict against OJ.

@Commodore Are you a legal scholar and believe that from an analytical standpoint, the verdict against Jones was excessive? What verdict do you think is warranted? Or do you sympathize with Jones and feel he did nothing wrong?

The other broader point worth examining is this - who are the people who look up to Alex Jones and subscribe to and fund InfoWars. Is there any disagreement that these people are some worthless combination of evil, stupid and gullible?

That’s not to say that the first amendment does not exist, or that people should not be free to consume whatever they want. It is purely a question of judging the intellect and moral character of InfoWars subscribers.
