Ford Motor Company wants to sell used cars over the Internet, so they started www.fordpreowned.com. Supposedly there is a law in the state of Texas that states automakers can't sell directly to customers. Ford said this law shouldn't apply to the Internet. Judge Sam Sparks said no, the law still applies. Just because it's the Internet doesn't mean that it's legal to do something via the Internet that was prohibited via other mediums. Here are some quotes from Judge Sparks : "Thus, the plaintiff (Ford) is prohibited from selling motor vehicles to consumers by mail, phone calls, leafleting, skywriting or drum signals..." "... as well as on a plane, on a train, in a house, or with a mouse." I'm guessing the judge got his point across and that he didn't want to leave too many loopholes open. ------------------ Just shut up and post
Rockets03, it is an antitrust law designed to keep Ford from oppressing you. Be thankful. ------------------ Rockets Draft Obligations Summary http://www.gaffordstudios.cjb.net/
"drum signals"? Could he have meant smoke signals? ------------------ "Don't think twice, its allright"
Well, damn Bobo... if you had been worldly enough in your tastes, you would know that on Gilligan's Island, the savage natives used drum signals. But.... AHA! There's the loophole... smoke signals!!! ------------------ Just shut up and post
Yeah, I just remembered that movie King Kong (the one with Jessica Lange ummmmmmm) they used drum signals also. Thats the loophole then, Ford will use smoke signals ------------------ "Don't think twice, its allright"
I'm sure some nut will find some loop hole. Plus I really dont see why a Co. cant do business on the internet. Just another scenario where the govt. cant seem to mind its own business. ------------------
