    Did not see this posted...

A federal judge dismissed all charges Thursday against 5 Blackwater mercenaries accused of killing 17 unarmed Iraqi civilians and wounding an additional 20 in a Baghdad intersection in 2007.

On one hand the constitutional rights of the contractors was upheld based on the 5th, but on the other hand, the five men got away with killing innocent people. This incident and others like it undermine our efforts in places like the Middle East where our image is already an all-time low. Not to mention the victory for people with ultra-right wing Christian fundamentalist views like Erik Prince.

I'm angry at the prosecutors for continuing to build their case upon those 'protected' statements despite being warned by their senior Justice Dept officials and others of the legal problems. In the end, the 5 mercenaries got to walk free. Was this some crazy conspiracy or was the prosecution so pigheaded/arrogant that it thought this wouldn't be an issue?

Detailed NY Times article about the shooting

    Prosecutors knew about legal pitfalls

Also I recommend this controversial book about Blackwater:

Usually it's the winner that convicts the loser of war crimes, if it is a war crime. I would say same old same old.

    No justice for the weak.

This is a heinous crime. Innocent people were massacred.

Sounds like the judge did the only thing he could, and it's the prosecutors that blew it.

Could be they did it on purpose to get the case thrown out I suppose. Who knows.
