The 20-year-old former high school basketball star told the judge he smoked pot because it made him a better player. So the 42-year-old jurist challenged him to a game of one-on-one on a different court.

Is this sorta like the bball version of three strikes and you're out,,,except the judge says if I slam dunk on your ass, you're out.

    read article for outcome

That is awesome! How embarrassing for that guy. I can only imagine he'd have to move from all the stick he's taking...

I remember seeing a segment on Connie Chung's CNN show about a similar judge who handed out "oddball" sentences to young people... hoping to get inside their head and show them their problems, rather than allowing them to rot inside the prison system... i thought the man was brilliant...

as for this judge, kudos! :D

Cool story. I never would have expected the judge to whip him by 7.

Wait...he would have won if we was high. Wasn't that the whole point he was trying to prove? He was straight and he lost. The judge disproved his point and gave the young man more incentive to continue his usage AND take better and harder drugs to improve his bball skills even more. Now, the kid's gonna be like "I took ecstasy so I would play better defense except I kept fouling out because I wanted to touch everyone and dance the night away".

The judge should have lost and then told him who he was in college sports. Then the kid would have been like, "...man, I just beat a college star straight. I'll never drink or do drugs again".

Nice going, judge. Stomp him when he's down. ;)
