Sounds like the early-90s LA Riots, Iraqi-style.

Do you see them burning Baghdad?

You must be one of the most negative people I've ever seen. Have you seen the Iraqis cheering the Marines, yelling 'freedom'? What's the problem? It doesn't jive with your opinion on the war?

You must really hate it when the Iraqis are heard cheering Bush.

Im watching all our tanks and armor roll into Tahriya Square where the big Saddam statue is. Lots of Iraqi citizens running up to tanks and shaking hands with the soldiers.

I give it another hour before the Saddam statue falls. =)

Nope, that's being done for them.

The hard part for the Bush Administration is about to begin. Let's see how they install a government that truly represents the Iraqi people rather than a bunch of warlords that will be no different than Saddam. Let's see how good Bush is at "nation-building", now that he is forced to do so. Only time will tell.

Why so negative? I bet less than 2% of Baghdad is destroyed by all of this... anyone heard any estimates?

I guess I'm feeling negative because, even though I feel Saddam was a dictator who needed to go, this war will open up a can of worms that no one will be able to close. To me, the ramifications of this war will be a more isolated US foreign-policy wise and a ramping up of hatred against the US throughout the world as well as more terrorism against US citizens and interests both overseas and on our shores. The full ramifications of this war will not be known for several months, perhaps a couple of years. I hope and pray that I am wrong, but I am scared about the future because of this action. In my opinion, it sets a dangerous precedent.

The precedent that has been set is this: if nation-states harbor, endorse, or condone terrorists it will take the US about 4 months to ramp up, 4 weeks to cart your ass out of there and maybe 4 years to return you to some stability with sovereignty. And yeah, we expect a US-friendly government for this grand favor we've done.

The enemies made will be few and they will be now watched vigilantly by many. They are outlaws and soon there will be more sheriffs, more deputies and larger posses on their asses.

We are at a zero tolerance level and we are "raising consciousness" ... how's that for a new application of that idea .... about the intolerance of terrorists.

I hope and I pray that I am right. Two sides of a coin.

Thank you for your insight Giddyup. I respect your opinion. You are correct...two sides of a coin. Only time will tell, since no one can predict the future. I hope I'm wrong, and I hope you're right, but like I said, only time will tell.

maybe a little longer than that...right now they are banging on the base with a sledgehammer, and those guys that were climbing on it to put a rope around the Saddam statue's neck..

Pretty funny stuff...looks like the citizens are enjoying the hell outta this....

I saw a little while ago, there were Iraqi citizens huggin on the troops and posing for pictures with em.

Gotta say, they look pretty happy to see the Marines, thats for sure.:)

I'm happy that the US won in a relatively short time.

They need Clint Eastwood - Escape from Alactraz. He dug through with a small chisel... even had time to make paper mache.
