I was just watching highlights of Sam Cassell lighting it up for 24 against Toronto. It occurs to me that these guys are very similar players ONLY Dixon seems to love to play defense. Sam might be a bit sturdier and a better ball-handler. Dixon a more reliable shooter and a much greater defender. I'd love to see Dixon in a Rocket uniform.
Cassell is a great mid-range jump shooter... As good as any PG in the league at shooting from 17 ft and in.
I didn't mean to downplay Sam's shooting; I meant to rave about Juan's range. I wish we had never let Sam go. Sam is a Player, period.
Giddy-Sammy was my favorite Rocket when he was here, but since he's been gone, I'm counting my lucky stars that he's no longer a Rocket. Sammy's a cancer... Back to Juan... I think Juan can be a good 6th man to provide instant offense. I actually see some similarity to his game with Mobley.
I think Nbadraft.net's comparison of him to eddie house is probably the best one. I agree with Kidrock, he seems like a guy who can come off the bench and light it up at times. But with all that said, I still would MUCH rather prefer Oscar Torres.
We have too many 2's already with Steve Francis, Cuttino Mobley, Oscar Torres (if we resign him) and Dan Langhi( if we resign him). Since Cuttino already plays 42 minutes or so a night, another roster spot for those six minutes is kind of a waste since SF just slides over and Moochie plays the point. We either need a 3 or KT to move over to the 3. We'll have Rice and Walt(ugh) at the 3, along with Oscar, and maybe KT or Cuttino. Hopefully we won't have Walt or Langhi. Does Juan Dixon then = Cuttino Mobley with better defense? Not sure of the need.
OK, first mock draft I've seen values Juan Dixon as the last pick in the first round and gets tons of guards before him, Jason Williams, Dejuan Wagner, Kareem Rush, Frank Williams, Roger Mason Jr, Marcus Taylor, and Casey Jacobsen. http://cbs.sportsline.com/u/ce/feature/0,1518,5249732_54,00.html But the Rockets are in love with small ball...
