Any body else seen this, it's a Japanese horror film that is gonna be remade into an American movie starring Sara Michelle Gheller. I just saw this movie tonight and I thought it was kind of bad while watching it, the storyline was very vague and in pieces. The visuals were a little bad, the actors were in very obvious makeup etc. After the movie, me and several friends just started to make fun of it while eating. But then, after 3 hrs of sleep, I woke up to needing to use the bathroom and I'm was scared sh#t less. I start to think about the plot and the more I think about it, the more it made sense, the more it made sense, the more I delayed the trip into the bathroom in fear of a 6 yr Japanese boy being there Anyways, my overall review of the movie is this, while it's in theatres its so bad that it's comical. I laughed half way through this movie. But because the way the movie is set up, when you're alone (or atleast the only person awake in your house/apt and you start thinking about the movie) that's where the real horror begins. Overall score B.
This movie is considered by many to be the scariest horror movie made because of its psychological fear approach. Strangely enough, I wasn't as affected by it. There are THREE ju-ons however, the first one being a low-budget "best story" one. Second being the more gruesome one and the third a remake of the first one with more special effects etc.
Is the American remake with SMG the movie I saw a preview for a couple of weeks ago about a building infested with poltergeists or some such thing? Movie looked damn freaky from the preview...
Yup, many of the same things in the trailer was in the movie. Except there were about 4 main characters in the original and only 1 in the American version the Grudge.
This reminds me of another Japanese movie that I saw with a couple of friends. All these teenage school kids, who just happen to all be wearing their uniforms, are brought onto an island where they have to kill each other to survive. They are all wearing collars that have tracking information and a detonator that will blow off your head. If you're standing in a dangerzone of the island then your head will blow off. And in order to get all the kids to try to kill each other, the dangerzones keep increasing and people get boxed in. Last person alive gets to leave the island. And they all get one random item that they can use. It's a pretty eclectic mix: GPS device, gun, knife, nunchucks, fan, rope, crossbow, poison etc. My friends and I were completely cracking up during the whole movie. We were making jokes about everything. We've got a pretty dark sense of humor and this movie was absolutely perfect for that. I don't remember what the movie was called, but I'm sure someone else on the board has heard about it.
Austin's I luv and vulcan videos have it. IMO the best ones are the japanese Directors cut version. I have it but it has Chinese subtitles. I loved that movie, though it's completely diffent from Ju On. I think battle Royale was suppose to be a dark comedy/critique, but Ju On is a horror film.
Just sign up for greencine.com then. I think netflix has it too. Just sign for the trial month then cancel it.
Battle Royale is the ****, as is the sequal that was released not too long ago. You can get them both floating around on BitTorrent, try checking suprnova.org, if you're unable to find them on DVD. Oh and I've heard of Ju-On, really been wanting to check it out, need to get around the renting "Ringu" too...
The sequel is the worst thing that can ever happen to something like Battle Royale. I bought it in Shanghai and left it there, there was just no room for crap, even if it's one CD thick.
The schoolgirl chick from Kill Bill I is in Battle Royale too. I imagine that is where Tarantino saw her that inspired him to cast her, cause she plays a similar character. Quiet, but nuts. Back on topic, can anyone provide me with a cursory summary of Ju-on? I've never heard of this movie and I'm curious as to why so many consider it to be scary.
There's a lot of "lost in translation" due to cultural beliefs (Asian beliefs of spirits etc) Also, there is the "grudge" with Sarah M Gellar..same movie..but with America people in it.
Social worker goes into haunted house and finds evil. Evil spreads out, connects with others that have had contact with the house. Everyone dies. Like I've said, it's not scary when watching it, but because the way it's setup, you definitely feel a little fear after the movie. It's fear factor is much like the pultergist style, more mental than anything that's happened lately. It's refreshing because it really seem that the U.S. movie industry forgot how to do horror stories. Even good movies lke the 6th sense really doesn't scare you, and most scary movie these days are either really thrillers (Scream) or just really bad (Jason v.s. Freedy, AVP etc etc).
