Sounds a bit like the Judas Priest story of replacing Rob Halford way back in the day, except the guy is from the Phillipines. JOURNEY DON'T STOP BELIEVING & FIND NEW SINGER ONLINE Movie & Entertainment News provided by World Entertainment News Network (www.wenn.com) 2007-12-06 03:06:31 - Rock legends JOURNEY have found their new singer online. Bandmates Neal Schon, Jonathan Cain, Ross Valory and Deen Castronovo introduced Arnel Pineda to fans in a statement released late on Wednesday (05Dec07). He replaces Jeff Scott Soto, who quit the band earlier this year (07). Journey discovered rocker Pineda after guitarist Schon stumbled upon tribute band The Zoo, while surfing the Internet, desperately trying to find a replacement for Soto. The Zoo, who were fronted by Pineda, had become such a live favourite in the frontman's native Philippines they had financed a series of videos and posted them on community website YouTube.com. The thrilled singer says, "It's so exciting to sing with one of the best bands in the world. It'll be a lot of hard work on my part and I'm actually looking forward to the scrutiny I'll get from the hardcore fans. "I know they'll expect me to sound exactly like (original singer) Steve Perry, but that will never happen. I know there's only one Steve Perry in this world." Schon is delighted with his discovery - because he came close to abandoning his talent search: "I was starting to think I was never going to find anybody. But then I found The Zoo and I watched a bunch of different video clips that they had posted." The Don't Stop Believing hitmakers are working on a new album, which they hope to release next spring (08). http://www.pr-inside.com/journey-don-t-stop-believing-amp-find-r334658.htm Don't Stop Believing Faithfully A "fan" vid to see what the guy looks like
The movie Rock Star starring Mark Wahlberg was based on the the Judas Priest replacing Rob Halford. Wahlberg played the part of the replacement singer who came from a tribute band. Rock Star
Holy crap, that guy's got some serious pipes! That's as good as Journey can do short of just bringing back Perry. Good for him. He goes from playing in a (crappy) cover band in front of 5 people every night to singing in freakin' Journey. Might have to check them out if they come to town.
I almost never say something like, "cool story". But yea...really cool story, good for him. Going from a tribute band to actually the band you're covering? Nice.
I hope they don't plan on doing a sequel now cause that movie was pretty bad. I liked that they used original music and found real band members to play the band mates. However, the movie itself was a fluff piece that apparently was written for gorillas to watch at the zoo. lol.
He also sings "SURVIVOR" songs and "HEART" songs... sounds to me like he's a good impressionist. Heck, even I can sing like Journey.
Allright... let me explain my previous phone further... why can't Journey have a different voice instead of a dude off the street that can imitate the original singer's voice? At least with a band like Van Halen, we knew the song was not a 'DLR' song when 'SH' sang it... we heard it on the radio and we said: "Oh, I like that song by Van Halen... I can tell it's Van Halen 'cuz it sounds like Sammy Hagar" or "Oh, I don't like that song by Van Halen... I can tell it's Van Halen 'cuz it sounds like David Lee Roth..." But when you get the same FRICKIN' voice from a post-pubescent guy from a YouTube video, you can't tell it's him! For reals, though, if I listen to a new song by Journey, or they're doing the old ones, I won't be able to tell the difference. I wished they would have found someone with a similar, but not exactly the same voice. WTF. He even imitates JON BON JOVI and sounds just like him... so I take it we're all waiting for Jon to die so we can hire him for the Bon Jovi band? EDIT: I swear to G, someone just came over to my desk and asked "Why are you listening to ghey *ss Bon Jovi, dude? You know how I know you're GhEy!?!?" EDIT2: My points are - 1. He should NOT sing the older Journey songs like Steve Perry, he should sing them like himself. 2. He is NOT a great singer, he is a great imitator. I wonder if he can sing all the GENESIS songs and sound just like Phil Collins... ^wow... now I really DO sound like FFB.
I was skeptical until I heard him sing and... ... yeah, actually, with a little polishing, I think he could fill Steve Perry's shoes very well. Tell ya what - I'd be interested to hear their new release with him on vocals. They might be able to re-capture their original sound again. Of course, I could do better. (ya know.. that'd be a fitting name for their new release: "Recaptured")
So tired of bands changing integral members and then keeping the band name and/or touring. Changing singers is the worst. I realize Perry hasn't been in Journey for years. They're obviously trying to live off the band name, otherwise they'd put out their new crap under a different name.
