This is all that matters right now about Smith, specifically regarding his tenuous future with the Hawks: His contract is expiring and his asking price for a new one is going to be high. It's going to hit the ceiling. It's why his days in Atlanta may be numbered. “I feel like I’m a max player,” Smith said Friday. And yes, that is the first time he has said that. “I feel I bring a lot to the table. I have a lot of versatility. For what I do and what I give this ball club, I feel like I’m worth it.” Atlanta Journal-Constitution Smith again: “There shouldn’t be any hesitation. I’m Josh Smith, I’m not anybody else. I ‘m not Michael Jordan, I’m not LeBron James, I’m not Brook Lopez. I’m Josh Smith. You can’t look at what might’ve happened with another person. Let’s say Joe. You can’t say, ‘I’m skeptical of giving another person that’ because of whatever they feel like happened." Mr.Smith, which patented post moves have you mastered? "the dunk and that 20 ft jumper that makes you cringe"
The team that pays Mr. "shoot the 20ft jumper without hesitation every time I have no hands in my face" will doom itself. PF that doesn't play in the post, barely drives and settles for long jumpers all the time, efficiency nightmare.
looks like he's been hangin out with 2 chainz too much down in Atlanta...."im different, yeah im different".....
max in his case would be at least 4/70 (5/94 with Bird rights) and it's likely to be closer to 4/75 judging by projected NBA revenues. 18-19 mil per. I don't think there's a team crazy enough to give him that.
I disagree. There aren't that many very good impact Power Forwards floating around any given year, and the position is a weakness on several teams. There's a team out there that will give him that contract, either to put them over the top for playoff/title contention, or as part of the plan to get out of the cellar by strengthening their front court.
I'd rather take my chances with jones and demo than to over pay for his services. leave that guy to the Kahns of the nba.
Best of luck to you on that max deal, Mr Smith! ...but if you don't get any takers as this luxury tax kicks in... we got about 10M level contract for you... same offer is prob gonna be made to Milsap, etc....whoever wants it first!
I really, REALLY want Smith on our team, but that is because I thought Morey could pull off a bang-for-your-buck kind of deal (twice -- trade/re-sign) for Smith. But, if Smith will not settle for a good price then no way I want him. I was hoping that Smith is getting to the point of his career where he has gotten paid and will sacrifice a few mil a year (getting paid 12-15 mil/yr) to lure in another superstar along him and Harden. I hope I am wrong, because I think that could be something special.
