Adrian Wojnarowski @WojYahooNBA 6m New Orleans has shown strong interest in acquiring Rockets center Omer Asik, w/ an offer likely centered on Ryan Anderson, sources tell Y! Who would be the better fit in Houston: Josh Smith or Ryan Anderson? Vote and discuss.
I'd probably take Josh Smith because he's got much better defense. But Ryan Anderson is underrated, and would be a great fit. Both would be very good signings.
I wish neither was an option, but if I had to take one... it'd be... Smith. Let's go with defense. Honestly though, if we could trade Lin straight up for Anderson I'd do that in a heartbeat. But Asik? Too valuable of a piece no matter how well Anderson would fit in offensively, Asik is simply a more coveted asset. And again - Asik and Davis would be one heck of an interior combo.
If they get Anderson they are either going to need to find another defender to bring off the bench in the paint, or Tjones is going to need to step up in year 2.
I think I'd probably rather have Anderson for $8MM than Smith for $16MM, but it's a tough call. It does seem like Smith would have a greater net value, but sometimes fit takes precedence over talent.
2 .500 FT shooters in Howard and Smith is concerning. Having a stretch 4 would really help Harden and Lin's game as the need to drive.
Does the salary even matter right now? With Dwight we will always be at or over the cap - so does it matter anymore? Smith is great at one thing and at least serviceable/good at about everything else. Anderson is great at one thing and subpar at about anything else. So the decision should be easy...
I'm actually surprised Josh Smith is winning the votes, I thought the consensus on him among Rockets fans was a negative one.
Defense wins games. But damn Anderson as stretch 4 would be like having Matt Bullard on roids with an offensively limited Hakeem in the middle.
You can't go wrong with either -- one would be perfect for our offense and the other would be perfect for our defense. Overall though I am going with Smith. If you are a playoff team that has to worry about winning a title against OKC and the Heat, you have to think about who is going to guard Durant and LeBron. Smith would be perfect in both cases, and his defensive impact overall is great.
