this kid really impresses me when i see him i see a slower version of KG, do ya think hell come out this year or wait another year or 2? and IF he did come out and IF he was there for the Rockets would he fit in w/ us well or is he too much of an offensive player ya think?
He entertained the thought of coming out last last after a very impressive McDonald All American game. He was better than everybody on the floor in that game clearly including Tyler Hansborough, Paulus, Green, Monte and all the other kids that were drafted in that class. He would have been drafted in the first round if he came out last season. For now, they say he is more like a physical Keith Van Horn but I liken him to Detlef Shrempf or Charlie Villanuva with a little more skill. I think he will go back with his good friend Paulus for at least one more season. It will be their team when those seniors leave after the dance. When he comes out, he will be a first rounder including Paulus (even if he comes out in the vaunted 2007 class).
he has a lot of talent, but needs to refine his skills, and like most college freshmen, he needs to play more. he isn't ready yet, but if he continues to get better, he could definitely be a lottery pick.
You really think Paulus is a 1st-round talent? I couldn't disagree any more. Sure i've got respect for any freshman who can come in and start for one of the best teams in the nation but let's not kid ourselves here, he's not asked to do very much. All he really does is walk the ball down the court, call a play then make a pass. He's literally always wide open and still isn't a good shooter. He hardly ever drives because he's got a terribly slow first step. His handle is also shaky. On the defensive end, I might commit murder if this kid ever becomes a Rocket. He's not quick enough to defend NBA level guards....or in most cases, college level either. Seriously, all you have to do is drive at him or Redick and you are guarenteed dribble penetration whenever you want it. He's short and weak, making hustle plays and running around slapping the floor isn't going to stop opposing guards from chewing him up at the next level. I like his fire/passion and willingness to sacrifice his body and he's a decent passer. Other than that, I can't say much else about him. The best thing he can do is stay in school and develop his game and fundamentals because he's not an NBA level player right now. Just take a look at nbadraft.net's 2007 mock draft. Would you really take Paulus ahead of Kyle Lowry (Nova), Gabriel Pruitt (USC), Jordan Farmar (UCLA) or Will Blalock (Iowa)?? There's even some highly-touted Euro named Sergio Rodriguez that i've never seen play. I can't speak for Rodriguez other than going by what others are saying, but there's absolutely no way in hell I would take Paulus over any of those guys.
McRoberts should never be compared to Van Horn, he is super-athletic and isn't near the shooter that Detlef or Keith were. A poor man's Chris Webber(before his knews were gone) is a good comparison.
I think given time Paulus will be pretty good... I think McRoberts is solid but he'll probably stay one or two more years
McRoberts is a freak. Solid jumper, rebounds pretty good (not great, but not bad), and I LOVE his put back dunks. I don't think he is NBA ready. His D is still questionable. And I question his heard on the D end too. Will be a good ball player though. Then again, I hope he doesn't leave beacuse....well, check out my sig.... Paulus on the other hand really does need to stay around. He isn't bad, but he is no way Bobby Hurley. I agree with the assesment about his first step, slow as traffic around 5 o'clock in Chicago. A solid passer, terrible shooter (and he gets a lot of open looks and passes on them because he knows he can't shoot). I really hopes he steps it up come tourney time, we are going to need it. I think if he stays all 4, he could turn out to be a solid player, probablly a reserve in the pros.
