He needs the attention and Dallas is going to be out in the first round this year, again. This honestly isn't newsworthy, IMO- everyone knows that most NBA players smoke weed.

There's some effects."
i mean thats cool and all but every player has a no drug clasue in their contract. so why the F*** would you admit thin on TV or anywahere. he is going to have reprocutions for him weather it be that he is suspended for a few games for this next year asn having to be in a drug class or some other S***. so it was retarted and will affect his reputation and people wanting him to be a rollmodel.
It's really a testament of how good these players really are...How in the hell can you be a professional athlete and habitually use performance reducing drugs? There are many athletes that are drug free that work so hard to become pro but are just not good enough. It boggles my mind how these people are willing to compromise their god given talents.
You are overestimating the effects of smoking. It probably has less of an impact than alcohol. Your doctors, lawyers, teachers, whatever. A lot of them use the drug too.
You admit it when your Substance Abuse program don't penalize your for admitting you have a problem. As a matter of fact, addiction is covered by the ADA Act. In most cases, it is against the law to fire or punish someone who informs you they have a "disease," as defined by the ADA. So, in terms of the NBA Substance Abuse program, maybe Howard is fessing up becomes he's close to his 3rd positive for mar1juana, which would be an suspension--the same one Maurice Taylor got while a Rocket. btw: it is a myth that there is 3 strikes you're out in the NBA. For mar1juana, 3 causes a 5 game suspension. The first 2 are required to be kept secret from the public and the team. Only the medical doctor, league office, union rep, and player know. The team doesn't even know.
I'm not going to have a debate with you on how bad the effects of smoking are either physically or mentally. But I will say that in any sort of profession that involves competiton (pretty much every single one), anything that creates a decline in your performance, no matter how insignificant you think it may be is not worth it. This includes the habitual drinking patterns of many professional athletes as well. On a side note, this is why I am for the legalization of mar1juana. Its an easier way to weed out the competition [no pun intended] =)
