Had a funny thought this morning - Do you think Bird - a fellow HOFer / all time great competitor / etc etc - winning the executive of the year engage Jordans competitive juices to try to win an executive of the year award? Everyone knows Jordan hates losing in anything. I would think his current tenure as being owner of the team with the worst record in NBA history would be bad enough, but pile the fact that the award Bird just won (which puts Bird in a club in which he is the only member) I would think Jordan must be going insane.
YES....YES .... yes. It makes Michael Jordan steaming made on some level, already that his team is utterly worthless on the court, while some of his peers are succeeding as GMs/Execs. Especially, Larry Bird. Honestly, he's only beaten Bird, once, when it really mattered, 98 Playoffs (though Bird was only a coach). In some odd twisted way, he's never really bested most Bird teams, especially head-to-head. Speaking of their careers as players, alot of people acknowledge MJ as being greater, but in reality how much better was he than Bird.
Unfortunately for Jordan, you can't will your team to success the same way in management as he did as a player. He's got to hire the right people and trust their decision making rather than trying to do everything himself like he did on the basketball court when the team really needed it. Hiring Cho was a good start but I'm curious as to how much power Jordan gives up to those under him. Something tells me he is stubborn as a mule when it comes to making decisions.
I got the impression that Cho sat all the management down and read them the riot act. If so, and if he can make it stick - a very big if, then the Bobcats may be able to turn it around. Given time and the smile of the ping pong gods anything is possible.
Well, Jordan was the one who hired Cho, so I would think any successes would be distributed accordingly If - big if - the Bobcats grab that 1st pick and grab a franchise caliber unibrow, then another if
continued.. if the bobcats can turn from the worst team in NBA history to an 8 seed in the east which really is possible in 2 seasons, I would think the image of Jordan as an exec would start to change
Competitiveness without talent is just like my neighbor's chihuahua, barking at everybody with nobody fearing of him making any damage. Jordan had talent that enabled him to compete at the top level at just one thing: playing basketball. I don't think he has any talent at being an executive.
