    The player's recalcitrance stems from the fact that the union's leaders are from teams that have absurd salaries compared to the rest.

    The player's rep being a 5th wheel on the league's most overbloated roster salarywise is the most ridiculous situation in any union negotiation i could think of. It's akin to GM's union being represented by someone being paid a salary for not turning up and and then rambling on about how the owners want unfair conditions by being allowed to sack him.
