This Jordan media lovefest is unbearable. ESPN has as front page news:

"Jordan's footing good enough to practice"

    Just kills me ....

What about the day that Jordan wowed the crowd with 8 points and 2 rebounds in a loss?

For real!!! I'm so sick of hearing about Michael Jordan. And to think, we have to live with this for at least one whole season. I really hope stevie breaks his ankles (not literally) and the Rockets kiss the Wizard's ass. Oops, I mean kick. hehe.

Yeah, that was only the first game back of arguably the greatest player to ever play the game.

Let me ask y'all this. If all this coverage was heaped on Steve Francis or Hakeem Olajuwon, would you be b****ing right now?

    I'll guess not.

You seriously missed the point if you're going for the homer angle. Obviously people are going to like a lot of PR on their favorite players.... MJ's not one of my favorites, but I'm not saying this because I hate the guy. No player should be getting this much pub.... it's seriously sickening and we're in the preseason. This has been going on for a year now. Some people say "every day" to make a point, but I'm saying this literally: EVERY DAY there is a front page link to a Jordan story, even if it's just to say "he practiced today". It's honestly annoying.

    What Clutch said...

PLUS, I didn't like MJ the first two times around.

His is arguably the best SG to play the game. To argue best player is an incomparable label. He wasn't the best "winner". He wasn't the best "scorer". He wasn't the best "passer". He wasn't the best "rebounder". He was a great "defender", but "the best"? Nah.

How many times are the Wizards going to be on NBC? 8? 10? I guarantee that it will get worse once Dick Ebersol gets his chance to "showcase" MJ and those "awesome" Wizards. It may be the first time in history that a team that will be lucky to win 30 games is on televison that much. Yet a team that wins 45 games is not shown one time by LBC (Laker Broadcasting Company), I mean NBC.

You think that NBC would pee in their pants if they had a Wizards-Knicks Eastern Finals and a Wizards-Lakers Finals?

No player should receive that kind of publicity, but it's hardly surprising with Jordan. With his kind of fame around the world and his place as possibly the best basketball player of all time, I would have expected no less.

Yeah, I get tired of hearing it sometimes. But its not much different from the last time he came back. It just kind of fades into the background for me now...

You should try living down here...where the NBA get's NO PUBLICITY...and now Jordan is back and it's all news again, as though nothing had happened for three years...

    Then try this for annoying...

Sports talk back caller: "hey...what about in the basketball, Jordan is back...how will he go do you think?"

Host (who knows $hit all about basketball) :"oh...probably just back to win a few more grand finals...how old is he? oh...43...wow, he'll still be the best and win easily"

    ARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHH:mad:

Actually yes I would. If I wanted non-stop Hakeem and Francis coverage I would have come here, like I did. If I wanted to find info about basketball around the league I would go to ESPN! Forget the homer aspect, last time I checked ESPN was a Washington Wizards fan. It doesn't matter, they have to do non-bias NBA coverage. They hyped their basketball preview all summer, as soon as Jordan pops up they uncermoniously dump it for 2 weeks, and then bring it back with little fanfare. I guarantee you'll know it's back soon though, because they're covering the Wizards next. If this happened his first game back I guess I could tolerate it, but this was going on for weeks before he returned, and is still going on, so the homer thing doesn't cut it.

I kind of like all this Jordan publicity. The way I see it, the more time the media spends hyping MJ translates to less Kobe/Shaq/Laker-worship. I'm no MJ fan at all, but I'd rather spend all day listening to interviews with Jordan's doctor about how his foot looked in a preseason scrimmage game with the Wizards B team instead of constantly having the greatness of the Lamer dynasty shoved down my throat.

I kinda agree with WickBrunson, you know it really makes sense, I mean really the attention is diverted from Lakerland...I don't know what all the fuss is bout.

May as well give Jordan the attention now. Cause the excitement will have dulled by mid-January, when MJ's team is 12 - 30, and 8 games out of the playoff race.

I think it would be worse if it were Dream or Francis getting this much attention. I think it would actually drive me away from the players and the Rockets to have so much adoration heaped upon them. You can see in this sort of treatment of Jordan that a line has been crossed (many years ago, actually) from fandom to some sort of self-abasement and idolatry.

The first day back of "arguably the best player ever"? I expect better than 8 points, 2 rebounds and a loss. Eight points is not news-worthy unless it's Jesse Helms in the NBA playoffs. Eight points doesn't "wow" anybody. Nor does two rebounds. Nor do losses. The only thing that could have wowed anybody is the persona of Jordan himself in some sick hero-worship. He is only a man.

Jordan has more points per game than anyone ever. Playoff and regular season.

    umm Dreamer,

Jordan is arguably the best player ever in basketball.

As for the pub, if you don't like it, don't read it. I don't think the media gives attention to who deserves it the most. The world would be very different if things worked that way.
