Does anyone remember how Yao's hands were in his rookie season? Was he anywhere as bad as Jordan Hill is now at catching the ball? I'm thinking that Jordan Hill can probably do the same tennis ball exercises that Yao did.
Yao had horrible hands, and to this day they aren't that great. He's still a beast tho, and J Hill should be one as well.
Yes I remember Yao had some issues making a clean catch on the entry pass at times. But I also remember Yao making a couple of one handed rebounds. I think Yao's issue were less about how good his hands were and more about just adjusting to the speed of the NBA game.
To Yao's credit, he doesn't have problems catching the ball. Usually its keeping it in his hands afterwards (defenders slapping at it).
i think yao's hands haev always been okay. he just couldn't secure it tightly. he still grabs rebounds without extending his elbows which causes him to lose it sometimes. with jordan he doesnt seem to have good hand eye coordination to grab the ball. you can tell he didnt play football when he was a kid
Yao definitely improved his hands from his first couple years, especially in terms of catching interior passes. And to this day Yao still does those "tennis ball drills" (see most recent rehab video). No reason why they can't give Hill the same training.
His hands are awful! We can throw bullet passes to everyone but him. To his credit, he is an exceptional scorer. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5e8883QlBzQ
I didn't watch him too closely in college... well I sort of did but I just didn't notice I guess... did he have bad hands then too? If not then all is good, the game is simply still moving too fast for him and he is easily flustered by the NBA level talent on the court. If he has always had issues then its part of his game and no matter what he will never have great hands. You can't teach great hands. Maybe you can somewhat correct bad hands but it will always be an issue if thats the case.
He better not! I want his ass to let his foot heal as soon as possible. His 1st priority, IMO, should be getting ready for the 2010-2011 NBA season.
It was bad in college too , but not the degree that it has manifested itself in the NBA right now. Although he is a pretty decent ball handler for his size too.
His hands look pretty decent to me... I think it takes a while to get used to new teammates and the types of passes they throw.
Are you referring to that fast break pass that barely got through? b/c that pass looked like it was going to get stolen anyhow. Anyone would have fumbled that one. Other than that I doubt Hill has as bad hands as Yao. Nitpick much?
i think they are... his hands may be all fingers and not enough palm or something like that. If his fingers are too long then he may have trouble keeping his hand wide open, instead its half open and the ball is hitting his fingers...either way overall they're huge. It would be like trying to catch a basketball with baseball gloves.
concentration, he still should have caught that pass, right on the money, whether it is almost stolen or not it wasn't touched, the angle didn't change, so he still should have converted
There's no such thing as having hands that are "too big". The bigger your hands are the better, having small hands is the reason why Kwame Brown can't rebound or score properly. The bigger your hands are the easier it is for you to grab the ball one-handed (when fighting for rebs), block shots, and do other stuff.
