Hence the minutes? Where do you think he ranks in this scale though? Does he even know that he doesn't know? Can he make corrections? Is he making the same mistakes?
My Thoughts on Hill as I just started writing during halftime and got long winded. Hill has shown an increasingly effective variety of moves out to the elbow from the time we acquired him last year to now. Whether in reference to his developing hook shot or the fact that he can hit the elbow J, he really hits a myriad of different shots. His form for the most part is good and between his height and jumping he gets good height on his shots and is rarely blocked. Early in the year he had a terrible habit of hesitating (by dribble, pump fake or fumble) and not just going straight up and dunking. He has gotten a little better about that. His handle in general is still suspect and he often gets the ball knocked away in the post. However, he has shown a developing ability to penetrate. This is especially notable because there are not many players his size that do that at all. Still inconsistent in game to game effort and seemingly mental prep. He is a pretty good one on one defender but is often out of position on team D and commits a lot of fouls in either scenario. Blocks shots on an inconsistant basis. Blocks seem to come in groups (maybe as he in more tuned into the game and coming over to play effective help defensive.) Is a long tall dood, but sometimes his length is completely negated by stupid and unattentive play. Did not necessarily embrace the opportunity when he got to start. Decent rebounder, gets shoved around quite and bit and becomes ten fold effective when he is actually into the game. Good offensive rebounder. I think that Hill will be a starting PF somewhere, but that will be at least after next year. He still has to grow up a bit mentally it seems and at least add a little bulk. I think he will be a very effective scorer eventually as well. I think he will always be a good but never great shot blocking and rebounding presence.
Hill has improved a great deal but has a LONG way to go. Dude is basically a rookie so I'm fine waiting on him but I also have a feeling he, along with Bud, won't be here past Feb 24th.
I think we can all agree that he needs 20-40 lbs of muscle, If for nothing other than personal confidence.
While the Morey apologists (Jordan Hill was the STEAL of the trade) and the Adelman apologists (he's a PLAYERS COACH who is great at development) will tell you otherwise, statistics do not lie. per 36 Last Year This Year FG% 53.2 47.9 Reb 11.1 8.9 Points 14.2 12.9 Assists 0.4 0.2 Turnovers 1.8 1.9 Blocks 1.1 1.5 The only improvement has been in blocks, every other aspect of his game has deteriorated under the "tutelage" of Adelman.
I'm more or less with the posters so far. I see his detractors haven't started posting yet. I say Hill will be good enough to start by playoffs; if not then, then by next year's trading deadline (not counting for a good part of the season being cancelled). I don't know who will be traded. I'll worry about it after the deadline. We have just under 5 weeks to wait.
The fact that the results are a little lower this year does not mean that he is not better. If he were not on the way to being a better player, then we could come to this conclusion. He is developing. He has more to think about than he did last year. He is going through a transitional period. It is very common in the NBA for a player to do worse in his second year than in his first. As Francis3422 pointed out, he is developing more shots. His individual defense is decent; where he is sucking is at team defense, which is tougher than one-on-one D. He probably had less responsibility last year. Your conclusion does not follow from your facts.
Jordan Hill is impossible to judge. He started basketball really late, and he doesn't have that drive to constantly improve. He has little innate feel to the game. Physically, he may have the tools. But will he ever turn on the switch mentally? To me, you either treat him as a long term prospect and "hope" he starts to get it, or you give up on him. I don't see him like Patterson, who simply need to adjust to the pro-level.
NY trash, Houston tries to turn into gold. Develop elsewhere, he's a first round bust no matter how you cut it.
What kind of available, defensive center can we get if we package Hill in a trade??? the only one that comes to mind is Nene. When Denver seems like they want to start over, I say we should snag him in the sale
Hill is most suitable for PF. But now we have to play him as a center. He is improving all the time. He still needs time.
