Brad Miller Chuck Hayes Jared Jeffries Erick Dampier Jordan Hill can impact the game at the rim on defense. He can shoot the mid-range jumper. He can roll to the rim quickly, and finish like a man. He is the third big behind Luis Scola and Yao Ming, by a large margin, in my mind. The intelligence of Brad Miller, Chuck Hayes and Jared Jeffries does not outweigh the general ineffectiveness of the two. THEY CAN NOT FINISH. THEY CAN NOT DEFEND THE RIM. They are SITUATIONAL players. Jordan Hill is a PLAYER... Let him make mistakes, because I guarantee that the positives will far outweigh the negatives...
FREE HILL And bench Brooks so we can actually make use of Hill. I don't want AB passing to a benchwarming Chuck....
No more Brad Miller the guy can't secure a rebound. and Hayes supposed to be the back up for Scola and RA just change his mind an play him at center.
FREE HILL Chuck/Miller missing every shot within three feet of the basket.... Getting constantly torched by opposing offense....
I think that this is a larger problem than the Brooks stuff. Brooks and Martin are going to be here for the long haul, so we might as well deal with it. That said, Morey needs to build a long, athletic, defensive roster to help support our lack of backcourt defense. Jordan Hill is sitting right in front of you, Rick.
Eureka we agree..... When Yao goes out it is a layup drill for the other team.....maybe Dampier changes that, but Rick Adelman plays too many guys he is comfortable with over guys with way more upside and athleticism. DD
I like Hayes effort but Hill should be the back up for Scola because he does attempt blocking shots, has a mid range jumper and can shoot free throws. Adelman said the only thing holding Hill back is consistency, I think he will get better with more playing time. Dampier will only help in back to back games when Yao is out. The reason we lost tonight was because the Rockets prepared for Carmelo but it was Al Harrington that torched us.
In general, our SF and PF are terrible. Scola does work, but Hayes just gets destroyed by his lack of height and is a non-factor on offense. Battier has declined (not "declining") and is pretty much terrible. Chase is good, but he's still learning and just had an off game tonight. Basically, Chase should be in the starting line-up. His growing pains are something we have to get through because Carmelo wasn't even guarding Battier. Similarly, J-Hill needs to be logging heavy minutes as the backup 4/5. Yeah, he'll get lost defensively at time, but you have to look towards the future. He just offers too much to let him rot at the end of the bench.
Jordan Hill is never going to live down that bad rep the sorry ass Knicks gave him. That hurt his value around the league and he has to play well to break that stigma. The problem is RA has his "pets" on the team and will play them no matter how bad they play.
And Hill isn't getting any BBall IQ sitting on the pine. He's past that stage of his career, he needs to play now. The only way, throw him into the fire.
I think that Jordan Hill should compete with Chuck for the backup big spot, but these 3 games were definitely ones JHill should have been the first big coming off the bench. His length and athleticism match up better with the length/athleticism of the Lakers (Odom, Gasol, Bynum), Warriors (Biedrins, Lee), and the Nuggets (Al Harrington, Nene, Shelden Williams). In upcoming games there might not be as big a need for Hill to be the backup, in which case I'm ok with rolling with Chuck. But it's mind-boggling that he didn't get any run against teams that he definitely would have negated better (however slightly) than Chuck/Miller.
completely agree! i've been waiting 2 see hill and yao in at the same time, it's almost a no-brainer, unless your rick adelman!
The Rockets should have some more practice days coming up. Hill needs to show what he can do. Chuck's had 2 bad games out of 3 to start the season, and Miller has struggled on defense. There's an opening for him to get PT.
