IDK who will have the bigger "Impact" because it kind of depends on the roles they play on both offense and defense.

Offensively Jordan Hill has already shown that he can have a great impact in games last season when other players set up plays and he finishes.

(Exhibit A) - Notice how for the most part others set him up and he finishes.(He does show's glimpses of a post game).

    ......

However in summer league they've been isolating Hill in the post and have him go one one one against the opposing big in order to develop his post game (which is why he's been struggling).

Which leads me to my point if they plan to put Jordan Hill on the post and have him go one on one, his impact may be limited on the offensive end in the beginning of season(or until his more developed). While on the other hand Patterson will probably be asked to be more of a pick and pop guy, as well as a finisher(like Jordan was last year). Which may give Pat the edge, well at least until Jordan can develop a pretty decent post game.

    ......

But with all this said, I'd go with Jordan Hill, just because his my favorite of the two.

They're both Rockets. They're both likely to be in the rotation. Why not both succeed?

    Besides, they're different players.

Its just a talking point... This is a forum after all... Ill go with Patterson. After having seen only 1 summer league game I think they will have to get this guy on the floor... If we go with hill as backup C though, who knows... Especially if Yao misses any time... I like guys quite a bit, but I think PP's ceiling is q touch higher...

But what's the point of comparing them? It's like asking if we want Kevin Martin or Yao Ming, or Aaron Brooks or Luis Scola. What's there to compare? Hill and Patterson are different players, expected to fill different roles on this team.

I want at least one of these guys to be a dominant part of our roster...leaning towards J. Hill.

Man this clip generated a serious amount of symbolic WOOD for the season to start. I'm so excited to see all of last years roster playing along side Yao Ming. I have a feeling we are going to surprise alot of great teams with a well balanced, diverse(uptempo/halfcourt/young/seasoned) chemically proportioned, and offensively/defensively-suffocating dominant team ball.

I hope to have people say "Wow, I forgot how big and dominant Yao is. He cannot be stopped."

I think they hoped Hill could develop into a backup center, they know he is athletic and can play off the ball and block shots and rebound and hit the midrange.

BUT....Pat Pat can do all that and is a better player......if Hill does not improve a ton, I think he goes to the bench and may be moved....and that Pat Pat takes over the backup PF spot behind Scola....he is further along.

Basically, I think Hill goes to the D-league....this year if the Rox don't trade him or he doesn't make MASSIVE strides.

jordan hill should be working on a face up game in the post more than his back to the basket.

If the Rockets go out and sign a real backup center for Yao, then Hill will either be traded or be at the end of our bench getting zero minutes. Hill can rebound and he can dunk the ball, but that is all he can do. Patterson and Jeffries are both better players than Hill.

That is why I said Hill goes to the D-league, he needs a lot of work.

lol you base that upon 2 summerleague games? Hill did play fairly well during last season and yes he is a work in progress
I don't know how good a defender Patrick can be but Hill's BS will be missed
D-league seriously? Does last season account for nothing?
There are teams that still play small ball and Hill can guard the smaller 5s at the very least
Paying attention, focusing are his weakness and that is not entirely impossible to overcome

I don't view the D-league as a demotion but rather a chance for a guy to get court time when there is not much available with the big club.

And yes, he did pretty well in the role last season, but a lot of that changes this year with Yao back and Pat Pat on the roster.

From what I have seen of Pat Pat (and yes mostly 2 SL games) he has a lot quicker reaction to what the team is trying to do.....but I am not giving up on Hill just think he has more to work on.......

That's based off what, two Summer League games? Last season, over the course of twenty-three NBA games, he was a valuable contributor. I dunno man, I tend to consider 23 NBA games as more indicative of talent than 2 SL games, but that's just me.

I did notice that Hill is getting doubled a lot in the post in the Summer League. That won't happen in the NBA, so he might actually have an easier time.
