Sounds like wishful thinking. Ya gotta love Dreamers. If this even had a snowballs chance of happening, why would Jordan be talking to Dream about playing with him & Barkley? ------------------
I've been trying to figure out why in hell anybody would play for the Wizards when trying to make (yet another) grand comeback. That's like placing the first nail in your coffin. ------------------ Yugo grills, Yugo mills, Check out the oil my Yugo spills...
Brilliant Idea. There wouldn't be any ego problems at all on that team. ------------------ Founder and President of the Houston Homers Club(HHC) - Are you a homer? Join now! The Rockets will be NBA champions. Believe.
Interesting article.....speculates MJ and Barkley to LA. Some of it makes sense, some of it does not. Take it for what it's worth! http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news/cnnsi/20010427/mjtola.html MJ to L.A.? by Marty Burns, Sports Illustrated Call it a hunch, but I'm guessing that if Michael Jordan does return to the NBA next season it won't be as a member of the Wizards. It will be as a member of the Lakers. Jordan is a free agent. He can play with any team he chooses. He even said so himself last weekend on NBC. Given his relationship with Phil Jackson, why wouldn't L.A. be at the top of his wish list? With the Lakers, Jordan could perform on one of the NBA's biggest stages - and he wouldn't have to carry the load at age 38. Playing alongside Shaquille O'Neal and Kobe Bryant, he could thread his way around the triangle offense and pick his spots. Most important, he'd have a chance to compete for an NBA title. Jordan and Charles Barkley on the Wizards is a joke. His Airness and Sir Charles on the Lakers, alongside Shaq & Kobe, suddenly isn't such a laughing matter. At least not to the rest of the NBA. Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak declined to address a possible Jordan comeback in L.A. But when I mentioned the possibility to one Eastern Conference GM, a pall seemed to come over his face. "Technically there's nothing to prevent it from happening," he said. "[L.A.] could offer him the [$4.4 million exception], same as everybody else." I know what you're thinking. Isn't Jordan a part-owner of the Wizards? And didn't he just hire Doug Collins as coach? Doesn't matter. If Jordan comes back to play, NBA rules require him to divest himself of ownership. He could simply use the occasion to make a clean break. He could even claim he's playing elsewhere for the good of the franchise, so as not to impede the progress of promising shooting guards Richard Hamilton and Courtney Alexander. As for Collins, MJ was never that close to him anyway. Not like he is with the Zen Master. In fact, the only real obstacle to Jordan joining L.A. would be the impact it might have on Lakers' team chemistry. Given the Shaq/Kobe feud, L.A. management would have to think long and hard about adding Jordan (and possibly Barkley) to the mix. After all, the Lakers tried it a few years ago with Magic Johnson, and the end result was not pretty. Still, does anybody really think owner Jerry Buss wouldn't give it a shot? The franchise that invented Showtime is not going to pass on the chance to put basketball royalty into purple-and-gold. Jackson would assure Shaq he'd still be the focal point of the offense, and try to convince Bryant to reprise Scottie Pippen's role as a do-it-all small forward. If Kobe balked, the Lakers could trade him for Vince Carter. It all makes perfect sense. But for those still not convinced, consider what Lakers guard Ron Harper said when asked if his recent decision to put his retirement plans on hold had anything to do with his close pal Jordan's possible comeback: "Whatever he does, I'm gonna do," Harper said with a laugh. "If he plays somewhere, I'm going to play in the same place he plays." Take my advice, Ron: Don't order the moving vans just yet. Marty Burns covers pro basketball for CNNSI.com.
