Awe, that sucks!! He was a 2nd round pick with a lot of hype when he was taken by the old regime. Here is to 3 fricken years of keeping hope alive that he'd turn out to be a decent pick But, I will say I am utterly disappointed he was released.
How bad do you have to suck to get fired on your week off? Edit: I just realized that they went back to practice today, so I guess it's not his week off.
well i guess it just means they are pretty high on owen daniels. he looks like he could turn out to be a nice player.
The Texans draft record has to be the worst of any 4 year span... INCLUDING the expansion draft (Tony Bosselli...)
I don't see why you can fault a team for wasting the "#1 pick" in an expansion draft - it's not like they missed a sleeper that some other team slid in and grabbed in front of them - they're the only team drafting. Correspondingly where the guy was drafted makes little sense. IIRC one of the reasons they took Boselli so that J-ville would let them take Payne and Walker, who were adequate when they were here, and in Walker's case a pro bowler. As far as the cap hit, I believe the Texans had to make a minimum salary in their first few years and were prevented from going out and signing massive amounts of free agents by the league. The problem with the Boselli pick is that the Texans put all their eggs in his basket and didn't use another high round pick on a tackle save for the immortal Seth Wand until this year.
Just one more notch on a laundry list of indictments as to why Casserly was the worst GM in football during his time with the Texans.
I'm not disagreeing with your premise that Casserly was the worst GM in football during his time with the Texans, but someone who is a bust due to injury, especially when they didn't show they were injury-prone in college, can't be blamed on the GM.
No, thats just bad karma for not drafting what was at the time, the consensus top TE who happened to go a whole round later.
So what are the odds of Babin being the next high draft pick to be released? I guess he's played ok. However, i expected more than 4 sacks a year from a 1st rounder we traded up for.
Anyone remember wasting a 3rd round draft pick on a QB named Dave Ragone? Anyone remember wasting a 2nd round draft pick on a RB named Tony Hollings? Neither are even on the team now. I won't use hindsight and look up the players who were picked after those two and are making huge contributions to their team. However, Imagine if we had picked a couple offensive linemen instead. When your QB is breaking all time sack records, you know what you need. Surely one of them would be a very solid starter. I think we need to start blaming our scouts, not just Casserly for setting us back at least 3 years. PS: I'm sure Tom Brady wet his pants when the Patriots signed Jabar Gaffney Monday. Another dissapointing 2nd round pick by the Texans, then cut by Philadelphia in training camp who desperatly needs recievers, and now he's playing for a Superbowl ring.
