I am also glad Barry didn't go to Denver. It's nice to see such a standup guy retire with Houston. I hope to see more of his personality on TV...maybe he can do ESPN, since those guys (especially BJ Armstrong) SUCK at commentating.

Wow, a week ago everyone was going ballistic on JVG for releasing him. Looks like it was a good move as Barry had nothing left to give and Brunson played well last night. How does that crow taste? ;)

Seriously, good luck to Jon. I heard he's talking to the Rockets about a front office position. I hope he is somehow involved with the organization.

weird....why didn't he just chill at the end of the bench for another month and retire at season's end?

Maybe he knew the Rockets could pick up someone else that might help, like Brunson. JB is a true class act who always puts the team before self. Good luck JB. You Rock!!

I still do not understand why Barry was placed on waivers in the first place...

But anyway, best of luck for the rest of your life! Hopefully there is a spot for you on the Rockets broadcasting team

He was on AM610 this morning and basically said he was spent and wasn't motivated any more. He had nothing but praise for JVG. This whole idea that JVG did him (and the team) wrong by cutting him is groundless. I didn't hear the whole show but I heard enough comments by JB to realize why he was cut. I repeat: He had nothing but praise for JVG and called him (surprise) an excellent motivator who knows how to deal with different types player personalities.

Move, according to the team, was made to allow Barry to move on to another team if he pleased or retire, at the same time allowing the Rockets to pick up a back up PG since we were so thin at that spot. Barry was released and we signed Brunson. Barry retired, doesn't sound bitter about it, and Brunson looks to be a good pick up how can spell Rafer and remove Head from having to take PG duties.

:( sad to hear it. He was one of my favorite players once we got him. I loved his fire.

    JB for THREEEEEEEEEE!

    I miss that.

Good luck to your post basketball life JB. Hope to hear you on the Rockets PBP team.

Screw PBP -- I want Barry signed on as an assistant coach!

His enthusiasm would be infectious during games and in practices, and I imagine he knows a thing or two about shooting that he could pass on.

I'd love to see JB with the Rockets organization for years to come.

I hope to see Jon Barry join the Rockets in some form too. I think I'd honestly prefer as a commentator, because he has a lot of personality. I think he would probably be better than either Drexler or Bullard. (Though I think Bullard has made some strides through the season, but Drexler is just terrible)

I think Barry wanted to be waived about as much as Rudy "wanted some time off". I don't know why they didn't cut fitch since they don't plan to use him any.

They assigned Fitch to the NBDL and I think they still have the rights to him, he's a young player, never know, he might turn into something in the future

People are getting a little ridiculous with their hate for Jeff Van Gundy regarding this whole Jon Barry situation. Since being cut, Barry has had nothing but the highest praise for JVG, and even gone on to call him the best coach he's ever played for. If the guy was seriously pissed, don't you think he would have signed on with Denver, or at least not stuck around Houston and done local sports talk radio? In half a season, JB became one of my favorite rockets with his passion and sharp shooting (there's nothing more I loved than seeing him stop and pull up to train a three on the break)...but it's clear that he doesn't have any negative feelings for JVG or the Rockets...so get over it people.

So you think Jon Barry was lying? If he didn't want to retire, why didn't he catch on with another team?

Man, the conspiracy theories around here...

I don't know why you think it's a conspiracy that I don't think he wanted to be fired. Any time somebody tells you that you're not good enough to play for them it's got to be disheartening. Do you believe he wanted to be waived and to end his career that way?

I'm not saying he's pissed off about it but the Rockets weren't trying to do him any favors regardless of what they say, they needed a roster spot so they cut him. It would have been done if Denver wanted him or not.

And if he is pissed off about it then it wouldn't suprise me if he didn't publicly criticize the team. He still wants to work in the league/organization and airing your dirty laundry doesn't really help that.
