I was surfing CF.net and was suprised not to see a thread after i picked up my earphones and heard Jon Barrys voice. I guess he just got on? Will try to report if he mentions anything of interest.
He mentioned that JVG doesnt like when he takes stops the fast break to take a wide open 3, but that has been his shot over the years and he is comfortable with it. He said if he is going to take an open shot he rather be outside the 3 pt arc than just inside. He said there would be no practice today and it would be just a travel day. He was questioned if Yao was instructed at practice to keep the ball above his head, Jon said that is a big problem for all big man. Caller asked if Jon got on his team mates for getting a little too fancy with the no look passes. Jon said he puts the ball where it is and if they drop it they drop it. Jon admits the Rockets got killed on the offensive rebounds vs. Jazz. There is no excuse for having the Jazz come in here and want it more than us in the 4th QTR. No question we are better than the Jazz. If you dont show up ready to play and mentally ready to go, you can get beat by anyone. Mentioned Celtics vs. Suns was a great game. He watched it at home last night. Jon mentioned other brother Scooter lives in Germany playing ball. Married a German woman and has a child. Youngest brother Jermey is not playing anymore. Lives in ATL, thats where Jon lives in his offseason home. Was asked if his Dad ever thought about getting back involved with the NBA. Jon mentioned his Dad was quiet and dint make to many buddies with in the system. But maybe someday. Jon mentioned his kids rather be Monster Truck Drivers than Basketball Players at this point. Jon wants to talk about wins on his show next week.
I was impressed with the Celts when they played the Jazz. They are a lot better with Toine and their rookies can ball. Now they beat the Suns, I think they rather than Phillie will win the Atlantic and will be the surprise of the East playoffs. I am surprised that Rick was that quiet. He was a perennial all-star and he did some broadcasting when his career was over.
People have to admit, Ainge did a great job drafting for the Celtics. All his first round draftees (other than Perkins, who's a late late first rounder anyway) seem to be pretty good (Banks, West, Jefferson, Allen). However, with Toine back, if they continue to do well, they are headed for disaster this summer. There is absolutely no way that Ainge will pay Toine the max money he'll demand, and he's a fool if he does. Walker will probably walk, and all their winning right now simply diminishes their draft position, and drafting is what Ainge's best at.
Ainge traded his pick for toine ... also, he his bird rights, so no one will be able to give Walker more (I wish the ROckets had played the Celts before the trading deadline!!
