(CNN) -- The 16-year-old son of actor John Travolta died Friday morning after suffering a seizure while vacationing with his family in the Bahamas, Travolta's attorney told CNN.
John Travolta and Kelly Preston were vacationing in the Bahamas with their children when son Jett died.

John Travolta and Kelly Preston were vacationing in the Bahamas with their children when son Jett died.

"At this point, we know that John Travolta and Kelly Preston's only son, Jett, had a seizure at around 10 a.m. this morning," attorney Michael Ossi said. "All attempts to revive him were unsuccessful."

The cause of death is not known, Ossi said. An autopsy will be conducted Monday. His body will be transferred to Ocala, Florida, for burial, he said.

Jett's death "was completely out of the blue," he said. "John and Kelly are happy when their children are happy. This is the worst day of John's life."

The Travoltas also have a daughter, Ella, 8.

Bahamian police said a caretaker at the West End resort where the Travoltas were vacationing found the teenager unconcious in the bathroom. Jett Travolta was taken by ambulance to Rand Memorial Hospital in Freeport and was pronounced dead on arrival, police said.

    * More about Kawasaki disease

Jett Travolta had a developmental disability that his parents, John Travolta and Kelly Preston, have linked to Kawasaki disease, an inflammatory disorder of the artery walls that most commonly occurs in young children and can lead to heart disease.

According to the American Heart Association, "About 80 percent of the people with Kawasaki disease are under age 5. Children over age 8 are rarely affected."

The causes of Kawasaki disease are unknown. Some scientists think it's caused by an infectious agent, such as a virus. Some studies have noted a link between the disease and carpet cleaning chemicals.

"With my son ... I was obsessive about cleaning -- his space being clean, so we constantly had the carpets cleaned," John Travolta told CNN's Larry King in 2001. "And I think, between him, the fumes and walking around, maybe picking up pieces or something, he got what is rarely a thing to deal with, but it's Kawasaki Syndrome."

    R.I.P.

Scary to think that something so deadly can be caused by keeping your living space too clean.

Very sad. As any parent, you ache to think of what if it happened to you.

That's terrible. They must be going through hell right now. I would venture a guess that New Year's will never be the same for them. I seem to recall Kelly Preston doing a movie with Kevin Bacon recently where they have a family and their kid (about the same age) is shot and killed at a gas station store during a gang initiation. Then, Kevin Bacon turns into a vigilante to exact revenge. It's just a terrible thing to have to put yourself in that mindset of losing a son for a movie role and then this happens in real life not to long after. I think John and Kelly are likely pretty terrific parents who definitely didn't deserve this. But, then again, who does deserve such a terrible tragedy like this? As great of a life as John and Kelly have had with their success in acting, I'm sure all that means nothing compared to losing a son so young. My condolences. I wish them well for a recovery from this but, obviously, they will never be the same.

There were quite a few rumors that their son was autistic but that he was never properly treated or diagnosed because of their scientology beliefs.

My condolences to Jon Travolta and Kelly Preston. On a bit of a tangent I've heard that one reason why allergies and asthma cases have been rising is that we are keeping things too clean and as such our immune systems aren't developing properly.

i'm guessing you don't know what autism is, but, keeping things simple, you don't die from it.

    very sad news. RIP.

^ It's not always that things are too clean, but all the powerful chemicals we use to disinfect with /IMO.

I've heard that might be a factor too but we know from vaccination that if you don't challenge your immune system it doesn't work that well.

Sad stuff. As many of you know, I suffered a Grand Mal Seizure in January 2006 that kept me in the hospital for 3 days. Seizures suck, as does epilepsy. It can kill. I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

what exactly would the point of your post have been if that's what you weren't implying?? just to provide an interesting little unrelated factoid about the Travolta family in a thread regarding his son's death?

First of all, you are being a total *******. I'm guessing somebody close to you is autistic and that's why you've got sand in your vagina right now. I haven't said anything that meritted you insinuating that I'm stupid and the aformentioned possibility is the only reason I'm restraining myself and explaining what I said.

If the son was autistic and was not getting the proper treatment, then it's possible that the Kawasaki disease wasn't properly treated or misdiagnosed as well. How is mentioning his possible autism a "random factoid" when this is a thread about him? It's not like I said "John Travolta was the star of Welcome Back, Kotter."

Was that thorough enough for you or do you still need to play internet tough guy? Good job derailing a thread about some poor kid's death btw.
