This is a topic that I've been wanting to post about for a while now, but rarely ever gets any attention. In my opinion, a good P.A .announcer can dramatically improve a fan's game experience, be it in person or even watching on TV....and the Rockets have the best P.A. announcer in the league. His booming pipes echo throughout Toyota Center for every positive that comes the Rockets' way, and I love the how he sounds utterly disinterested in every opponent's made basket. He manages to help turn a pathetic turnout in the lower bowl of the arena every night in to an enjoyable production. As Rockets fans we've had to put up with some terrible P.A. guys over the years, and thank goodness we don't have to put up with the likes of T. Gray anymore. So let's show some love to John Paul Stevenson. I hope he stays around for a while.
Thanks for the video, I always thought it was done in some booth in the upper levels and it was recorded
cool video. i always thought he did the starting line ups and then everything else was pretty much recorded.
Heh, when I read the subject line I thought "why the heck is there a post on a retiring supreme court justice in GARM?". Facepalm'ed when I read the OP.
I appreciate him exponentially more on road games having to listen other announcers. I think it's the Hornets PA guy (?) who does this... but when one of their players hits a three, he elongates the word three in this high-pitched voice reminiscent of a child yelling "wheeeeeeee!" I hate that guy.
I missed that, lol. Everytime there would be a turnover or a Rockets possession, I would yell that in my brother's or friends ear and they would be pissed off
I honestly thought it's a reference to Ric Flair or something. A quick lookup shows that he's from Charlotte, NC. Might be completely off-base though.
I like how he smuggly states that the visiting team just scored. "Carlos boozer.....for 2 /sigh"
Great thread. Every now and then during road games you can find him at Nick's Place and give him your appreciation in person.
