How about we wait and play a few more games before we call the formula dumb?

Rockets at #13. 1 spot better than the 6-1 Spurs.

Bucks at #7 with a losing record.

Still too early to make much of it obviously

The celtics are at #4 because their SOS is lower mainly because they played the Heat twice (5-4) hahahah.

This guy continues to make a fool of himself.

How do you know that's why?

They also have a more efficient offense and defense.

The way I look at it, the Heat has 1 impressive win (Orlando), and two bad losses (the last two).

The Lakers, meanwhile, have been beating up on subpar teams they're supposed to beat. The one game that should have been a real challenge -- Denver on the road -- they lost. Before that, they beat Minnesota at home in what should not have been such a close game.

This ranking might have it wrong, but they aren't nearly as far apart as the records would seem to indicate.

I couldnt agree more. Hollinger is worthless and PER is the most meaningless recorded stat in sports.

yes beating up on Nets and Wolves is a cleary indication of how smooth their offense is.

it seems that way but if they had won the winnable Boston game at home and the Jazz game at home, the SOS would be lower. Miami's losses was a direct reflection of why their SOS is higher

again key words: winnable games. Its not like Miami is a bottom feeder like the Rockets and Clippers getting pounded on by a tough schedule.

PER is not meaningless. obviously you have to watch the games, but that stat can tell a lot about a player.

joe johnson puts up 21, 5, 5, but his PER is ridiculously low for a guy with that much usage and playing time.

usually the best players always have the best PERs.

So you think they should beat Boston, but you don't think they should be ranked high.

at home? Yes they should've won vs Boston. If they had they would've made a case and I wouldn't say a thing. But they didn't AND they lost to the Jazz while holding a sizeable. Will those rankings show how they blew a 17 point 3rd quarter lead? Will they show how they let go of an 8 point lead in the last minute? Will it show Dwayne Wade missing clutch free throws? nope. These rankings don't take into account the manner of how the games are lost which are critical to ranking teams

Do you think it makes them look worse that they had a huge lead and lost it? To me it says that they are pretty good but are still learning to play with each other.

Tired of everyone crying about Hollinger's rankings. Why don't you come up with a formula then? Y'all are looking way too deep into what he does and not taking it at face value. And ya, I'd take the Heat over the Hornets
