Quick, someone post the picture from media day.

I'm sure he has a since of humor and will understand.

Damn, this guy really sounds smart. Smartest NBA player? Well, atleast he is the best so far at speaking. Check out some of his answers.

There are several ways to guarantee a lighting quick and chilly interaction with me:

    "You are tall aren't you!/?"
Any question where a) the punctuation is ambiguous b) the question versus statement nature of the sentence is actually irrelevant to the speaker and c) the sentence makes no sense to the recipient under either interpretation is an absurd start to any relationship.

    "You must play basketball!/?"
Again with the whole question/statement uncertainty thing. Depending on my day, I would sooner answer a swift slap to the face with a cheery "hello to you too!" than respond to this bomb. Why must I play a sport...talk about stereotyping!

"What size feet/hands do you have?" (Followed by inappropriate physical contact to form an actual comparison)
I am British, my personal space is about ten times that of my typical American counterpart (hell, it might be about 5 times that of my typical British peer!) and the obvious lewd innuendo is not lost on me either (and not appreciated.) Additionally, I am not a frotteur (and no, that isn't a type of yoghurt.) There is an exception here - at camp or with youngsters in general, there is leeway...I can kind of understand the amazement if you are 15 years old.

    Giggling, pointing & staring.
    Let's go piece by piece:
Giggling - sadly not the domain of boy-band fans anymore. In lieu of any real cognitive process this becomes the default process for many people. In a social context, it's the new alternative to fight or flight - instead of chatting intelligently or walking by respectfully, we giggle. shrug Pointing & Staring - OK, this one is a little hard to understand for me. It's a bit foolish to think that just because I am not staring back at you I can't see you at all...again a distant cousin to the days when a towel over your head rendered you invisible. I wish I thought that people stared because of my male-model-like looks, but I never had any real backing for that theory...and in honesty I think it would get fairly old under those circumstances too.

The last that I'll mention now is what I have dubbed the "Fright-to-Fame Flip-Flop." This happens when a person or people see me, usually at night or in a dark place and go on extensive and obvious detours to avoid me starting their manoeuvre at about 30 to 40 feet out. This can involve ducking into shops, cramming into a defensive ball all suddenly with telephone calls to answer or more commonly, simply crossing the road. Then, at about 10 to 15 feet range - under close observation from the crowd - they will recognise that I "...must be a basketball player..." because of "...my size..." and they will cross back and clammer round like anacondas in a mating ball.

Perhaps it's just me but I don't think that running scared because a person is big and black (I don't think the tea drinking Brit part shows through at that range) and then dropping all guard because I am big and black and potentially famous is sound logic. In fact, it is a laughably loony hypothesis and a fairly unsafe assumption. [I apologise for the last sentence, I am into clumsy alliterations at the moment. It'll pass. Anyway...]

In the interest of balance I must point out the "other hand," of, "On the other hand," fame. I can be totally guilty of being a tad snappy at times. So, if you do meet me and say something perfectly reasonable and I am a b****, well give me a chance to redeem myself - I usually will. Despite the previous grumblings I really am quite reasonable, but I have bad days and good, just like you.

I found this section particularly well spoken...some folks in the D&D forum could and should apply this to their posts.

    :D

Say what you will about him as a player, but he does seem like a very intelligent guy.

After reading the article on him that was posted here awhile back and now this, Meech comes off as a cordial gentleman aware of the many self-assumed responsibilities of being "potentially famous." And yet, senselessly aloof.

Sorry, don't see it. Seems like a smart guy.

If you don't like him, oh well. And that seems to be Ameechi's opinion as well.

    John's own words...

Other than that, say what you will, despite what you may have heard recently, dissent, debate and disagreement are a healthy bi-product of freedom. If you can’t handle it, don’t bookmark this page and don’t come back. If you don’t have the depth to debate rather than scream abuse, argue or stick your fingers in your ears and yell, “LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA” then you probably don’t have the perspective to hold a position at all.

    I think he's talking to westbury44...
