Is he a good fit for this team? He can rebound and score like he did last night. He's better than Mo but he's injury prone.....

then we'd have two former overall #1's. except one of them would be a BUST!

Joe Smith is a better defensive player than Mo Taylor. Smith can rebound and get blocks while scoring about 10 a game. That part of his game would fit in with the Rockets and Yao Ming.

However, creating his own shot is not a strong point in Joe Smith's game, IIRC. Mo Taylor's offensive abilities surpass those of Smith.

Interesting side note: Smith and Brian Shaw were traded by GSW for to the 76ers for Clarence Weatherspoon and Jim Jackson in '98.
Another side note: Weatherspoon and JJ have been teammates on 4 different teams: GS, 76ers, Cavs, and Rockets.

Can he hit the 15-ft jumper?

If so, I'd trade MoT for him. Smith is defensively better, has more experience and grabs more rebounds.

Good to see we are still carrying on the fine tradition of coveting an opposing team's player right after the game. Let's see, with Minnesota up next, who will be our next covetee?:D

I don't understand why people complain about player inquiries right after we play them.

If you ask me, there's absolutely no better time to do it. You JUST got a glimpse of the player and his skills versus the corresponding player on our team.

    When's a better time?

Umm... a good time to talk about players. Hmm... how about when you can actually acquire a player? Like the off-season or before the tradeline, there's just no point in talking about it before the PLAYOFFS!

If I remember right, Joe Smith was on a list for the most underachieving #1 picks ever.

How can you talk about whether or not it is a good idae to acqurie a player if you don't talk about his skills before acquiring him?

Granted, we won't be acquriing anyone for months, but as Sane pointed out, Joe Smith's game might be a little less fresh in our minds a few months from now.

the reason we complain about it is twofold:

    1) we can't trade for them right now anyway; and

    2) you're assessing a player based on one game. joe smith, in this case, is a scrub who had a great game against us. but, using this limited sampling (one game), he looks like a great player for us to acquire. maybe if people actually assessed players' games for a period of time, and then suggesting acquiring them, it would be better received. as is, it's just annoying.

btw, i understand that this is not everyone's 1st time seeing "joe smith" play. but if you've seen him play for any duration of time, you'd know he's a scrub and would not suggest such a thing.

just because a player has a good game against us, does not make him a good acquisition for us. the opposite is true, as well. just because someone had a bad game against us, does not mean that he is a scrub and a horrible fit for our team. assess a players game over a large sampling, please!

Joe Smith is a complete player, and is better than Talor & Cato, so that makes him attractive to us. No, I do not make this comment based on only ONE game, I've watched many of his games when he was drafted by the Warriors. That's why the Timbewolves were willing to take the great risk to sign him.

The problem with Joe Smith is that he was a No.1 draft, but he wasn't live up to the expectation come with it. If he was drafted outside of top 3, no one would say anything bad about him.

Oh btw, this is a meaningless thread. We cannot sign anyone now, and his salary is a little high for us.:D

I would rather take a risk to sign Antonio McDyess. If he can stay heathy, we will have our PF of the next 3 years, if he is not, then he could be forced to retired and not serious hinder our cap. He can provide very solid 20-25 Minutes every night.

I agree. threads like this come up because we just played against them and/ or they did something to garner national attention (ESPN highlights, scored alot or rebounded alot) other than that we dont get to see some of these players (or hear about them) much.

I think JSmith didnt live up to the hype and thats why people are so tough on him and I agree if he was late pick people would be excited about picking him up. I would love to have him on this team for the right price (not his contract now) and he would be a good role player. Too bad hes a lil too lean for the PF position (IMO) but he rebounds well and his mid range game is pretty good.

when else do you get to evaluate other teams players until you play them? I dont think people here watch every teams games .. I have a hard enough time watching Rox games.

    *sigh*

please, stop there. there is a reason joe smith has bounced around the league so much. the reason is that he is NOT a complete player. in fact, he doesn't do anything particular thing particularly well. on top of that, he is a slacker. he, when motivated, can be a decent complementary player. problem is, he only gets motivated about 3 or 4 times per year.

    stay away from joe smith.

    room4rentsf:

i understand what you're saying, but that doesn't make improper player analysis acceptable. i've been a LP subscriber for years, as are many others here. so i do watch a lot of games...probably more than i should! my philosophy is simple: if i haven't watched *at least* 10 games of a player, i don't even speak about his "game". even after 10+ games, my anaylses can change due to nba defenses adjusting to a player's given skillset. in the case of joe smith, the nba figured out a long time ago that he's too small to play down low, doesn't have the range to play the 3 spot, and is frequently coasting on the court.
