Hawks star Joe Johnson knocked the team's home crowd in an interview with Chicago's Daily Herald.

"Don't get me wrong, it's the home team and I enjoy playing there and I enjoy when the fans do come out," Johnson said. "But by no stretch of the imagination have we got one of the best home crowds. We don't. I can't really even say it's getting there.

"In the playoffs, yeah, they're there. Throughout the regular season, it's not much of a big difference from what it was. It's different, but it's not that big of a difference than what is was when I first got there."

RealGM Note: The Hawks are 20th in home attendance this season, averaging 16,707 fans (89.2%).

How does this imply that he wants out of Atlanta?

    Poor thread title.

any way morey could find a way to trade mcgrady and maybe one of our guys to atlanta? i would sacrafice one for joe johnson, that would improve our team THIS year, and make us legitimate contenders NEXT year. last year he made 14 mil, i assume he makes the same this year? just dreaming over here...

    Yes, misleading thread title.

If you want a crowd Joe, come to Houston! We'll give you crowds of Red Rowdys to fill our stadium and Atlanta's. ;)

Maybe we can trade for JJ and show him what a REAL boring home crowd is like. If not for the Red Rowdies, sitting in the Toyota Center is sometimes akin to posing for an oil painting. Unless the Spurs or the Mavs or the Lakers are in town, in which case THEIR fans are hopping around like crazy.

Well that's not bad considering Yao is out.

Let me see if I can decipher what he's implying(Very poorly). Joe Johnson wants out of ATL because of fikle fans and bad home crowds? Never mind that they're arguably the 3rd best team in the east. So Houston would be a great place for him to land because we know how awesome our fans are in the lower bowl, right?
    Does that sound about right?

It is when its the 4th largest city and they are one of the better teams in the league. It would be much better with Yao, but that doesn't make the current attendance ok.

    *shrug* Can't be perfect.

That's more to blame on the high end execs not the fans that are actually out to watch the entertainment. I'm sure everyone on our team understood that when we were sold out last year that still didn't mean all the seats would be filled.

This is not a first for this or any team.

So I guess that means Joe Johnson wants to play with either Portland or Sacramento

Hey Joe, shhhhhh....one of the reasons it is empty is that people can not afford to go to the games in this tough economy, and you should realize it will soon effect your salary, and all the people you work with as well.

Don't look a gift horse in the mouth.

What did Joe Johnson expect when he signed there? They've made the playoffs the last two seasons after missing it the past 10. And those 1990s Hawks teams were arguably better than these Hawks teams (Mookie, Mutombo, Steve Smith, etc). Hell, even the Atlanta Braves have a hard time drawing fans in the ATL.

Truth. The seats are mostly owned by companies, and they give the tickets away to clients who either A) don't use them or B) go to the games but only as a social event or C) hang out at the club level bar most of the game

It's a damn shame...I have seats down there and I get b****ed at for standing too much cheering. Oh, the sad irony

Not good news for HOUSTON. The Toyota Center crowd sucks. It's bad even with the Red Rowdies.

They should institute a move down policy after the first quarter.

Completely agree. The upper bowl fans are loud and proud. The atmosphere would be electric if the lower bowl folks cheered like they do
