Recently Joe Elliott of Def Leppard was interviewed at the Sweden Rock Festival and took a swipe at Poison and Mötley Crüe, saying LA Glam bands cared about their image and mascara more than the music.

Bret Michaels and Poison played the same festival the very next day. A reporter mentioned what Joe said about them and Bret responded. Below is the exchange.

I definitely agree with Elliott about Hanoi Rocks. I don't think he has much room to talk about Poison and the Crüe however.

For more context, Def Leppard is not beloved in the UK b/c of the perception that they cared more about pleasing the audience in the USA over the UK.

To think I almost went the whole day without learning something new, but now I know those bands still exist.

I found the LL Cool J and Kool Moe Dee rivalry more interesting.

I guess this means only 10 more years before N Sync and the Backstreet Boys start fighting.

Oh snap I love Def Leppard.

I am spinning their first release "On through the night" in my CD player right now.

Although I must admit I dont know any of their stuff after "Adrenalize"

    must rectify that.

X is a really good album, and I liked some of (although not all) of the tracks on Slang. There are also a few good tracks on their new album.

Feuds in music are nothing new.

I agree with you Freak....he has no room to talk about either of those bands.

If a washed up hair band falls down in the woods, does it make a sound?

I saw Def Leppard at the rodeo here several years ago. They put on a good show and sounded great.

I don't see how bands that didn't write their music, didn't play instruments, and aren't still successful 25 years after they started are relevant to this thread.

    Completely Classless!

Let me say - I love DL, it was the second best show I've ever seen (next to Buffett) when I saw them in South Park Meadows around '95 or '96 (way after their heyday) only about 2000-3000 people in the audience, but it was an incredible show because I got so close to the stage and every song was a hit, but to slam other bands is classless - especially Crew & Poison - it is silly.

Rather than try to knock down the competition, just improve yourself!

I think he definitely can talk about Poison like that without any irony. If you don't agree with me I'll post the video for Unskinny Bop.

i don't like any of those bands and the dude was a douche for his comments. the worst was when he said david bowie cared more about image than music compared to his band. wow. thay don't have a single song better than bowie's worst. the other douche handled it well with his response.

Poison gave us the cliche ... Posers!!! It did not help that Poison had to use studio musicians for the guitars on their records. Warrant was the next band to wear the Poser label and might have been a better band to mention than Mötley Crüe

Methinks that Mr. Elliot does not like getting lumped with the hair bands of the mid to late 80s, seeing that Def Lep broke big five years before.

What this thread really needs is ...
