[Joe Alexander] Honestly, I've never seen anyone try to dunk this much...

This thread is not really meant to start a discussion about him in any way related to the Rockets. Unlike the thread in the GARM, this is really just for fun, because I found this video that I hadn't seen yet and frankly, it's ridiculous. He has no interest in layups or hook shots if he's within 7, 8, sometimes even 10 or 11 feet of the basket. Shaq didn't even try to dunk this much in his prime.

    <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/GdAYyqSOuPc&hl=en"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/GdAYyqSOuPc&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

With his work ethic, supreme confidence, mean streak, and propensity to dunk everything, this guy is going to be a terror. He can come off as a bit of a pompous ass, but dare I say it...as a fairly unknown "white dude" who just started playing 5 years ago, I think that's the approach he has to take if he wants to make a name for himself. He's not going to back down from anybody, and in that regard, reminds me of Larry Bird. Very matter of fact about what he's capable of and how bad he wants to beat you...I love it.

It's very close, but I actually think Stromile shoots more hook shots around the rim than Alexander does. Joe serves up facials in practice like somebody just ****ed his girlfriend.

It'd be awesome if the Rockets could draft this kid, but oh well.

Part of me thinks he's going to end up going to high, anyway. He is probably more of a late lottery pick, but he will likely go higher.

Ive wanted him. I remember @ the beginning of the mock drafts, he was in the the 20s so I wanted him seeing I saw alot of WVU games.

Anyways, hes showsn that hes really good and has alot of potential.. Reminds me of AK47z in terms of his play/style somewhat without the p***y flopping

Seriously, you just found this video?

I've known about Joe since the beginning of the year and already how athletic he was before ANYONE talked about him here

    Joe Alexander...from Taiwan

Well, it will be great to hear NBA Commish David Stern say that, although he will actually say Joe Alexander from West Virginia and although Alexander is 100% American.

Nevertheless, according to the NBA's method of identifying players' nationalities, the 6-8 junior forward from West Virginia University will be listed as coming from Taiwan, which has yet produced any NBA player.

    According to Wikipedia:

Born in Taiwan, and until he was a junior in high school, Alexander lived in

Taiwan and China while his parents worked for Nestle. He is fluent in Mandarin. He attended Beijing Shunyi International School from 1996-2001, where he started to play basketball. He became the top scorer in 2000-2001 Nike CHBL (Chinese High School) League's Beijing Division.

The NBAdraft.net predicted Alexander, who announced he would enter this year's NBA Draft without hiring an agent, as a lottery pick -- going as high as No. 11 to the Indiana Pacers.

The talented and athletic swingman, who was born in Taiwan in 1986 when his father worked for Nestle Taiwan, said he would love to return for another year with his teammates but it looked like he would go pro after all, if he lands in the lottery.

Taiwanese basketball fans' dream will come true on that particular day,

    Isn't that what I said?

I didn't just hear of Joe Alexander, although I'm sure I haven't known about him as long as you have (congrats on that, I guess). I've seen plenty of footage of the guy, read his scouting reports, and watched him in the tourney, but I hadn't seen a 10 minute long video of (almost literally) nothing but dunks. I thought it was worth posting.

I was thinking how great it could be if we got Alexander because he speaks fluent Mandarin. He could become close friends with Yao, maybe coax him to be a little more ferocious around the basket, and even make fun of opponents in Chinese with him.

    :D

Why are they letting him dunk? Is it because its practice? I would foul the crap out of someone trying to do that. Or at least attempt the block.

Exactly why he won't nearly dunk as easily in the NBA. These looked like pick up games or something.

It was clearly team practice/scrimmage during the wide angles, and actual games during the normal angles. It was all against D1 players. Of course he won't dunk as much in the NBA, but it won't be a huge difference, in my opinion.
