So I go to a job interview last Friday. When I first arrive, they tell me that they are looking to make a quick decision and that I would be informed one way or the other by Monday or Tuesday this week. The interview goes really well and before I leave, they tell me that I am their guy and that I should expect a written offer from them on Monday (yesterday). Their director (the head honcho) was out Friday and Monday. Yesterday, I get an e-mail right before close of business from the HR director saying that she had one more detail to work out on the offer and that I would receive it first thing this morning. Now this morning, she sends me an e-mail saying that the director is back and wants to have lunch with me tomorrow. I reply to her asking what time I should be there. I also ask if I will still be receiving the offer today. She just responds with a time and doesn't mention the written offer one way or the other. What could this mean? Is it just me, or does it seem as if they are backpedaling on the offer? I hope it's just a situation of the director wanting to meet me and not a situation of one more approval prior to an offer. This job is clearly a huge step up for me. I don't mind meeting with the director for lunch, but I live in B/CS and this is in The Woodlands. It's a 200 mile drive for me roundtrip. Your input is appreciated. Thanks.
its one more part of the interviewing process, the director wants to meet you first. Be sure to order a Sam Adams at lunch
they found out your an aggie...sorry man better luck finding another job in all seriousness, i think they will still offer the job to you
A Sam Jackson would be a better choice. I wouldn't worry about it too much, if they wanted to back out of it they'd just not offer you the job. There's no need to schedule a lunch if they aren't interested anymore. It could just be that the director wants to feel like he has the final say in the matter.
It's wrong if they pull the offer. Treat it as a second interview. Did you accept during the interview? Did the person you interviewed with have permission to offer? Sometimes it takes a while to get the written offer.
They will get back to you...Job offers always take longer than they say it will...What is B/CS? Bay CIty?
A lot of times they're going to want to meet you to determine your "fit" for the company. I wouldn't sweat it, if they weren't interested in having you on-board, they wouldn't waste your time with lunch. I'm sure it's something he likes to do for all new-hires. Gives him/her a chance to make his own judgement before he/she extends a formal offer. As expensive as it is to recruit new talent, you want to make sure that they're going to fit will with the culture and environment of the company. So good luck with lunch, I hope it goes well. I look forward to congratulating you soon
I doubt they would make you drive 200 miles and take you to lunch just to reject you. I know how you feel and you will definately look at the situation as glass half empty. Just make sure you go in there acting like you already expect the job/already got the job (don't be a prick though ). Confidence wins.
My suggestion would be go to the lunch and find out. Duh. No wait... don't go... it's a trap... they're going to kidnap you!!!
I think it would be stupid for them to take you out to lunch only to tell you they are pulling the offer. If they were going to do that, they'd just call you.
Or they'd just send you a letter in the mail 6 weeks later, like most of the places I applied for before getting my current job. If the director wants to have lunch with you, that's what you should focus on, not some stupid piece of paper. If you want a piece of paper, I'll mail you one.
