Did not see posted.... http://sports.espn.go.com/chicago/nba/news/story?id=5646081 DEERFIELD, Ill. -- Joakim Noah has agreed in principle to a five-year contract extension with the Chicago Bulls, according to a league source. The deal is believed to be in the neighborhood of $60 million, according to the source. ESPNChicago.com reported in August that Noah and the Bulls have been working on a deal for a while. The 25-year-old center repeatedly stated that he wanted to stay in Chicago. Team executives privately expressed the same feelings, despite rumors swirling that Noah would be a centerpiece in a potential deal for Denver Nuggets forward Carmelo Anthony. Noah came into his own last season, averaging 10.7 points and 11 rebounds per game in his third year. The Bulls expect him to become an All-Star this season and are convinced that he is fully recovered from the plantar fasciitis that plagued him throughout most of 2009-10. The news of Noah's extension comes on the same day the Bulls announced Carlos Boozer would be out for eight weeks and would need surgery after breaking a bone in his
I doubt Noah is going to be that big of an impact this season as the Bulls are making him out to be... All-star breakout season? Lol...
Moments after he agreed to the extension.... <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ae9Yt_1l62s?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ae9Yt_1l62s?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object> I always thought he was overrated and ugly as ****, but he's unintentionally funny
Twice as much as Marcin Gortat. Seems about right in that regard. Might get some of that money chopped on down in the new CBA, so its still beneficial if he gets this extension beforehand.
I don't understand why they are in love with this guy, he is a descent player, but what so special about him, I just don't understand.
He's a young, high energy big who's an top 5 rebounder, and a great defender. He's also been improving his mediocre offensive game by leaps and bounds each year. I doubt he'll have an allstar caliber season this year, but it's not crazy to think that eventually he'll make it there. Plus, with what big men generally go for these days this isn't too ridiculous.
I don't understand the Bulls logic. Is there any reason why they couldn't have held this off until the next CBA's finalized? What, someone's going to come in and give Noah some sort of max that the Bulls just can't match? The only player from the draft 3 years ago who has enough leverage to get a big extension now is Durant. Brooks is a good example of a player who's quite good, will get quite a lot of money, and is having no success getting an extension. While Noah's more important due to being a big, he's not worth the Bulls rushing into things. The only way this deal makes sense is if Noah has secretly developed some sort of super post and/or perimeter game that no one knows about. Otherwise, I can't see him making a big leap from here, given his skillset.
Yeah, this is probably the main reason why they made the extension, that and the fact that they want to keep Noah happy. I guess they're thinking if Noah becomes an allstar this year they'd have to cough up more than the 10M contract they're giving him. However given the new CBA which would likely reduce salaries across the board I don't see Noah performing at a level high enough to justify 10M per under the new salary range. Well not all moves GMs do make sense.
I see it as just a personnel management strategy. Holding out on extensions can create bad blood. And when star-power players become disillusioned with management, they can force trades even when they are under contract (like Melo and countless others). Morey is betting he can keep the relationship with Brooks intact without the extension. The Bulls are extending extra courtesy to Noah to eliminate the possibility of hostility resulting. I think I like Morey's approach better, because I think players can respect it even if they don't benefit by it. I think Noah will respect the Bulls less if he thinks the Bulls signed to appease him.
Noah has gotten better every year. I think that the Bulls got a good one in him and they won't regret this contract as they did with Tyson Chandler.
Ehh... the extra 2 million would probably be lost to state taxes and what not. Miller doesn't have to worry about that because of Texas' no state income tax.
Sounds like the Bulls are convinced he's Dennis Rodman 2.0(minus the bad drama). I think he's a bit overrated as a "star" but in contract terms I would say that's a decent price to lock him up long term if: - he can stay healthy(which he has for the most part) - he can pull at least 10pts/12 rebs/2 blocks/1 steal a game(which is doable for him) - he can be the team's big stopper and premier help defender - he can be a team player(which he really is made for) ....I mean - this is Tom Thibodeau's team after all. On the Wizards, Noah is a good defensive player and hustle stat guy but in Thibodeau's system, he could be the key player of an elite defensive team. I think it makes sense to spend a little bit more if he is the perfect guy for your new coach's system....and it can't be understated how rare relatively healthy quality bigs are in this league.
They're paying him less than Boozer. I'd rather have Noah than Boozer any day. I'm sure in another year another team would have been willing to give him Boozer-type money.
