It's real gm... are we really wondering about their interpretation? No I would say that Les is just saying that where he might have been willing to give up the young ones for a name in the past, he recognizes that his current players have higher value. I would have guessed that Les wanted the name more than Morey did in the past. Daryl has done well stockpiling and waiting for his opportunity to strike.
Good use of lame NBA style "nicknames" in the title. 5 stars for effort. I love how young this team is and I'm glad Les sees that. A little worried about the Yao comments though.
Really hope they don't pay Yao more than 2 million, his prime is over and will get injured again next season.
I'm a bit worried about Yao. Sure, if he comes back on the cheap, it'd be a boost to the team. And if he gets hurt, well, the team and season suffer. But i'm more worried about his health long term (after his playing days). I mean, his foot has been repaired multiple times already, he's 300+ pounds, and he's 7'6. Add the rigors of multiple NBA seasons and it's kind of amazing that he's still able to walk. And now that he has a family, it'd be terrible if something were to happen to him. I'm no doctor, and i'm sure Yao and the medical staff has looked into this. But if he were to retire, I wouldn't be disappointed.
I said 3 years ago morey and adelman are having issues and pretty soon it will be over. I think both guys are right in their own right if that makes any sense. Rick likes stability throughtout the lineup. Morey know you need superstars to win a ring. In the end, I think both are right. In regards to hayes, he's one of my favorite players, but the rockets cant sacrifice a shot at howard and williams to pay hayes. In fact, they also need to pawn scola and miller off to ensure a legit shot at those two. They wont have to gut their team because they have good depth. Either way, the rockets need to stay or get into position money wise to lure both to houston.
I understand where you are coming from, but let's be honest.. do you think Howard or Williams want to sign with Houston? Especially if they are part of a "rebuild" that would result from losing Scola, Hayes and whomever else you think they would have to pawn off to make it happen. Chuck isn't going to cost as much as the team will lose if he leaves. He's a value player because he has the potential to play like he has been lately, but he's also confident enough to come off the bench or even fall out of the rotation and still find a way to contribute to the team.
The RealGM writers are known to interpret quotes very widly and they certainly tend to choose controversial headlines to get more clicks. That said, I don't think that's the case here. "Definitely, the way our players are playing," Alexander said of his hesitancy to make that sort of move. "Daryl and I always fight about this. It's all give and take. I think our guys have shown they are capable of winning a championship if we add a couple pieces to them. I don't want to give them away for some other player. Sounds like Alexander really likes this team and would be hesitant to pull the trigger on a big trade. He probably see's how well the guys we would have given up in a Melo deal are playing right now, in contrast to how Melo and the Knicks are doing. The Nuggets recent surge might also factor in. Just my opinion though I guess.
Hayesfan- I think the Houston would be a great destination for williams and howard. They will look at each other as the kind of players that can elevate the franchise. The rockets can have a ready made team if they make a couple of moves and I will stay with this. Scola and Miller for Kaman. This gives Patterson and Hill development time at the 4, replaces scola post play, and improves the rockets defense. Top that off, Kaman is expiring after the season. Sign Chandler or Thad Young for 6m per year. This upgrades the 3 spot and would give the rockets a multi tool, versitile 3 man. Chase can come off the bench. At the end of next year, the rockets will have 30m payroll of a 58m cap. Thats enough to offer williams and howard 14m per yr . If they give hayes 4m or more which he deserves, then you cant get both or offer the money to both. Not being in the money game would mean Williams in Dallas and howard probably in La. That would mean a wrap for the rockets.
I think Les is acting like a fan, which in my opinion is a good thing to know about your owner, but on the down side, if you compare this article to the way he sounded while talking with Bill and Clyde on air, make him seem to me like one of those average knee-jerkers we have around here, like one of those who would trade Bill for a second round pick in 2030 if he were to be mad at him. And I still find this funny: Spoiler <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/3_CF3tALIuI" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
If there is a lockout though, then you are looking at a very short period of time to convince them both signing together in Houston is a viable option. The likelihood of them going elsewhere is much more probable in a year like this one where everything is up in the air. Would the two of them together be a great combination, absolutely, but is Houston the only team able to pick them up together? What about other markets?
You are consistently wrong.... 3 years is a LONG time.... half the owners and coaches will have a falling out after 3 years..
That's what I got out of it too. I think he's delusional if he thinks this squad is a championship contender if they only add a couple of pieces. Not unless those couple of pieces are big name players, but I don't think that's what he was talking about. And I also find the way he's talking about Yao doesn't make me optimistic either.
I caught the article earlier while on the run, I remain highly suspicious that Les Alexander has his eyes and heart set on bringing Larry Brown to Houston, and that even Morey could possibly find himself pushed out if Brown wants it that way. For those that don't remember, Les is friends with Brown and courted him in a huge way after Rudy T <strike>was pushed out</strike> resigned for health reasons. With Larry Brown available again, chiming that he wanted work the same day he quit, and the awkwardly uncomfortable refusal to express interest in retaining Adelman....I have to wonder if they've already had lunch in the Hamptons.
Hmmm, so Les thinks there's a better coach available than Adelman, Yao is going give us 5-6 more good seasons, and this team doesn't need a star to win championships or sell tickets. No wonder Morey fights with this senile old man. Hopefully Chuck talked some sense into him over dinner.
I'm trying to understand what you are trying to say. What I've stated about morey and rick 3 years ago is basically what the article stated. Adelman isnt a fan of the way morey ships players on and off the roster. Adelman also doesnt like the way every player comes up in a trade rumor mid season. Go look at the roaster stability and peace he had in portland and sacramento. Hayesfan-If there is a lockout, it will be this summer. 2012 is the summer when paul, williams, and howard can become free. If the rockets can trade scola and miller, they will set up perfect for a run at those guys. Go to shamsports and look at the salaries ending that summer. There will only be a couple of teams who could make a run like the rockets. Thats another reason why i wouldnt pick up the options on thabeet, nwilliams,or hill. If those guys show progress and the rockets strike out on williams and howard, they could always resign those guys. They must be flexible and looking at the dynamic, the rockets are sitting great for a in season trade of howard if it cones to that.Thats why getting Kaman for scola and miller would be huge. First off, he would replace scola and some both offensively and defensively.Secondly, he makes 12m and is expiring. The rockets wouldnt have to throw in alot of young players to get within the 25% of howards salary. It could be something like Kaman,Thabeet, hill or patterson and picks which the rockets have a few of now.
They'd better not pay him any more than MLE, hopefully not even that. Veteran's minimum would be nice.
Oh I thought Williams contract ended this year... you mean he has to play another whole season with the miserable Nets? poor guy Okay, so after looking at those numbers if Lee takes his option and we don't keep miller... since his is non-guaranteed... then we have 30mil accounted for in 2012. That leaves what enough for two max players and no one else? If the Owners get their way the salaries will drop right? I'm just trying to understand the dynamic of not resigning Chuck and Yao for what they are now worth for next season... if you don't, you have a full year of Jordan Hill as your starting center and Brad Miller as his only backup... Does anyone want to watch that? It would be like admitting that we are going for lottery picks (which 2012 should be a good class coming out). If there were not going to be a lockout this year, I could see trying to make trades so that you go into next season with temp pieces to save for the 2012 free agent class, but it doesn't make sense to not resign Chuck this season if his market value continues to be lower than his production value.
