I was a minor fan of this guy before the draft after seeing all his highlight videos and he is just starting to get some playing time due to injuries. He is proving to be a smart, effective shooter during games. For some reason, I want this guy to succeed. What do you guys think of him?

I think he has been what everybody expected. I don't think even the most delusional thought he would be the next Ray Allen or anything close, but there's absolutely nothing wrong with being "just" a lights-out-shooting role player with high basketball IQ. He's the kind of hard working player coaches love and trust.

The bottom line though is everybody knows the kid is smart and can shoot the lights out. The question that will linger over him and define his career is: can he develop his game to become a more complete player?

I wouldn't let him drive my car, especially if he's been anywhere where booze is served. He can shoot well, though.

after the college career he had, i expect a more productive player.

he's allways going to find a job in the nba because of his shot. however, a long solid career as a role player (a la piatkowski) is a dissapointment for the national player of the year from duke.

JJ is the 2K version of Steve Kerr. Which means hes a more atlethic. He will get ate up on D and will be nothing more than the glorified bench player. Novak will have the better career.

the point is that Steve Kerr was an integral part of the Bulls and Spurs championship teams, hitting some big shots. He wasn't exactly the 12th man.

Reddick needs to stay with the Magic because he'll get alot of open looks when Dwight Howard starts developing into a dominant big man and command double teams, right now he has no post up game.

I'm sure he'll be better than Piatkowski.

He's 22 years old, played in only 16 games averaging only 14 minutes a game in his injury-riddled rookie campaign. Don't write him off just yet. He's a guy that I would love to have on our team someday.

I'd trade Luther Head for him straight up today.

    .....but I doubt Orlando would.

Sura, Padgett, Head, our 2008 first rounder or a 2nd rounder, and $3 million cash for Battie, Redick, and Deiner.

I think Head is fundamentally better, more clutch, and brings more to the table.

    Yeah........................

I'd trade him for Redick in a heartbeat.

    But I doubt Orlando would.

Above poster was right, what is your point? All I did was compare JJ's game to Steve Kerr, I wasn't taking away from his accomplishments. When people compare Kevin Durant to T-Mac, nobody is saying he'll become a scoring leader champ and have a bad back. They are just comparing their game. Anyways, Kerr was exactly what I said JJ would be, a glorified bench player.

I don't know about that. Right now, I wouldn't do the deal based on the fact that he has yet to prove anything in the NBA. Yes, I know he's been injured and that plays a factor in it all. Who says the kid won't be injury prone? Sure he was a great college player, but so were many other College stars who failed in the NBA. Also, we already have a long range bomber that sits at the end of the bench, Steve Novak. Some people would even say he is better. He'd probably have went higher in the draft if him and JJ switched teams.
