I think these are the two guys who make the most sense for this team. here is a very indepth analysis of reddick from draft express His shooting talent is amazing from beyond the arc. With wide open looks, i think he might even be able to shoot around 48%. Only thing you have to worry about is that he needs someone to create, but that obviously isnt a problem. His defense then is the only thing you have to really worry about. It isnt that good, but our number one priority should be offense and he truly answers that. indepth analysis of Brandon Roy from draft express If reddick's defense is really too much to worry about, then brandon roy is the next best fit. He is a perimeter defender, shooter with range, distributer, and really has an all around game. HE doesnt blow you out with any of them and that is the only real concern. He will do his career as a role player and that is what we need. Great complement.
JJ would be a perfect fit, and he'll be available. On the flipside, defensively he'll get abused by a lot of 2 guards in the nba. I wouldnt mind if we took him though. we could use the shooting.
I say take roy, and let him and luther split the point duites (Ball Handling). Look to move rafer for another swing player if we can. I like rafer but for luther to have a good career with us its got to be at the point. Besides Luther's d and upside are tremendous in comparison to Raefers.
Roy will be gone by the time we pick, unless we trade up. A player like Redick can be good on this team as witnessed last night when Frahm hit his shots. This team is a beast if we have players that can hit shots and Redick can do it on a consistent basis. On the real, I believe Frahm was brought in here to see how a shooter like him can do and how Redick will fit. He isn't long-term.
yea, agree. redick will be a very nice fit. I still like roy's driving game, he can finish with both hand is amazing.
I think Brandon Roy would be almost perfect for this team. He would bring size and athleticism to the SG spot. With that being said I highly doubt that we will get a shot at drafting him from our position. Reddick would be a nice consolation prize except that I don't think he could play defense to save his life. I worry that other teams 2 guards would be able to score on him very easily. However if we are thinking of him as an offensive spark off the bench type player then he could be valuable, but that still leaves us without size or athleticism at the 2.
Somehow find a way to get Roy with the Lotto Pick. Then grab Mike Gansey in the second round. He will shoot just as well as Redick, AND be a more well-rounded player. Quote me on that.
You would be like to spend a top 10 pick on a guy-undersized,below-average defense,below-average athletism, grab ONLY 2 rebounds and contribute ONLY 2 assists in college basketball and was totally shut down by a average college basketball player in a crucial game? Bottom line: this guy can SHOOT for most times in college basketball games BUT he CANT do anything else. Think SERIOUSLY before draft him.
The Rockets can't use their first round pick on JJ Redick, and by "can't" I mean that Carroll Dawson/Van Gundy won't unless they've gone insane. They can find shooters comparable to Redick in the 2nd round and even in the FA/undrafted pool. I don't think you'll find a BETTER shooter than Redick in this draft, but one that's good enough. Mike Gansey would be great, as would a big guy like Steve Novak. You're paying a huge premium for Redick's sole skill (shooting) if you take him with a lottery pick. That's almost obscene...like taking Trajan Langdon with a lotto pick or something. I'd be pissed if the Rockets did it. The team's areas of need are varied enough that you have to get more than a one-dimensional player with the lottery pick. I also wouldn't trade the 2nd round pick to move up and take Brandon Roy. First, depending on who comes out, I don't think he's out of range necessarily. Second, I think Roy's best projection is a Caron Butler type player (who would be quite a nice addition, by the way), but he could also be quite a bit less than that.
I believe that a heathy Yao and Mac can lead 3 deadly shooters to the NBA title. RedDick can be one of those for sure.
Can you specify whom you think in the 2rd round is as good a shooter as Redick? And who in the FA pool? The only name I can think of is Peja and he is not available.
i think i listed two guys already in my last post... mike gansey of west virginia should be available in the 2nd round as well as steve novak, marquette, who i think is a better shooter than matt bullard. bottom line is that i don't think any aspect of redick's game translates to nba success EXCEPT his shooting. his off dribble game was adequate in college, but he won't take anyone off the bounce in the nba. i don't need to look at anything other than lsu and a scrub like garrett temple shutting him down completely. so, he doesn't create off the dribble, but he can pass...right? nevermind, he's not good at that either. rebound? no. okay, so again, you want the rockets to invest what will hopefully be the last lottery pick the team has for the next decade on that? i don't have a problem with redick on the rockets. in fact, i think it would be great. if we had a pick at the end of the first round or perhaps he even lasts until the 2nd, then i'd take him in a heartbeat. but if they use their first pick on him it will piss me off.
I'd cash in the second for Roy, no questions asked. Would be a great option as third scorer and can create his own shot. Add Roy and Vspan to the lineup, find a rebounding PF and we are set.
J.J. Reddick is a younger John Barry! The ROX need a much better player with the top 10 pick in this year's draft! I would select Roy, Carney or Collins.
I was high on Carney a few weeks ago, but I had only seen a few games of his and was very impressed by them. Since then however, I have seen how easily and how often he just disappears from games.
If Roy is there, we grab him and run away as fast we can. but I dont think he will be there, then we will have a tough Choice, JJ? Carney? Collins? Shelden Williams?(I m inclined to write Brewer off), now I feel any of them will be fine with me, even we pick Shelden. We can easily get a servicable young and tall SG in the off season with half of MLE. like Rush, Q woods, JR Smith....honestly I dont see that group of drafts can pan out much better than these 3 alike, except for Carney. that kid got potential, but comes with risk.
I think you underate reddick. He got stuffed with double teams in the tournament and is argueably the most closely gaurded player in the NCAA. He will really shoot the lights out and is way ahead of gansey. Gansey is a great shooter though inconsistent, but he isnt that guy that can never be given a three point shot, thats the guy reddick is. Gansey might have an all around game, but it will be as good as luther's if not less - in that case, it doesnt help much. The rockets are seriously making changes this offseason, so they probably will cover the problem with defense in the backcourt. I dont think we should worry about that so much.
Actually, I don't think I am underrating Redick at all. I think he's the best shooter in the country...possibly the best shooter in the last decade. Certainly, he's the best shooter in this draft. He would be a great addition to the Rockets. Does that not give the man his due? My point was and still is that his one strength is not worth a first round lottery pick, given his weaknesses in other areas of the game. Everything I've read in response from others is what a great shooter he is. No arguement from me there. Those that want Redick have proposed nothing in regards to addressing the other issues on the team (athleticism on team, lockdown defender on the wing, rebounding, ballhandler/distributor, etc). Even if someone could make an arguement that he'll be just adequate in other phases of the game instead of a liability, that'd be something. Haven't seen anyone make that arguement, though. You're assuming that the defensive issues such as playing Wesley at SG (and having him being your best on-ball defender) will be dealt with by the team, but nothing of substance is offered. Just the desire or intention by a team to make up shortcomings does NOT mean that it will happen. If it was as easy as simply intending to do something, you wouldn't see crap teams like the Knicks. So, for the pupose of this discussion, it's not a really valid point in my mind unless there's some indication of that happening. If these other areas of the team aren't addressed, you're telling me that getting Redick will make the team better? I don't think so. Say the Rockets take Brandon Roy with the lottery pick. With Roy, you can potentially address two or three major areas of need on the team, freeing up the use of the 2nd round pick for another area...say rebounding. It boils down to what else JJ Redick can do other than shoot the ball and my estimation is that he can't do much else.
