I noticed that everytime i watch a nationally televised game that everyone is in awww of what JJ is doing when every night he is the most consistent Rox on the floor. In my opinion he and Yao are the co MVP's on that team. I have never really seen someone else on that floor give it there all like he does in and out everynight. He isnt really averaging high numbers point wise like some other players out there but he has consistent play and you can always count on him to give you what need as a player. If the whole team was as consistent as he was then i dont really see any team out there that can stop the Rox. I say keep the team we have now and in soon enough time we will see the dominance of the Rox.. On a somewhat related note. Is it just me does everyone notice how the Rox run the same first play everygame where they throw the ball down to Yao and JJ is comes around a pick or two and is just sitting there wide open for the three ball. At least its something like that i think.....

Well i am not only talking about points or how well he shoots but the other things that he does. He doesnt run around all crazy with the ball like Steve and Cat do. He knows what he has to do and he does it. None of that fancy stuff. Just good overall play on both ends.

    Totally Agree!

I was going to post a thread in honor of Jim Jackson, since most posters tend to be occupied with the typical Yao / Francis debate.

Glad somebode else appreciates Jim Jackson's great play!:)

He is a great pick up, no question about it. Except for some bad shooting nights, he is very consistent in term of not doing stupid things and playing good D. From time to time, he has spetacular O performances. His rebounding and assists are always there.

He'd be perfect if he didn't step out of bounds at least once a game.

He also steps on the 3pt line a lot. Just an oddity. OH well - if he needs his concentration to make the shot, I guess that part's ok.

Without JJ and Yao, this team will become streetballers.

Props to JJ. Great game. I don't think he's underrated because I value him so high.

How about Spoon's play lately? He's like a JJ only older. Spoon just brings hustle and energy to the team. He's also a great pick up.

Does it worry you when 33 year old JJ is averaging over 40 minutes a game the last 5 games. Either is his conditioning is top- notch or he is going to burn out around play off time.

I think that stat is a bit overused by national game commentators. He hasnt played huge minutes since 97-98. There are many players that average in the upper 30's in minutes into their mid 30's. I will only be concerned if he starts to slow down later this year, which i find unlikely.

The Rockets did an EXCELLENT job of general managing this season, with their free agent acquisitions of Jim Jackson, Clarence Weatherspoon, Adrian Griffin, Mark Jackson, and Eric Piatkowski. Even though Piatkowski has been a bust so far, he still was a great pickup at the time, and I would make the move again. Adrian Griffin hasn't done much for us so far, but this is the type of guy you will see more in the playoffs. JJ, Weatherspoon, and Griffin all have playoff experience, and are the definition of role players. These are total blue collar guys who can sac up in crunch time when it counts.

I love JJ's game, and we definitely bought him when his stock was at a serious low. If we could go back about 10 years we would call him Mario Elie.

how much of a raise for next season does he deserve. i think maybe even as high as five would be fair.

I don't know how he can be underrated. He is who he is, an excellent role player with a good outside shot and can occasionally create his own shot.

The guy has always been able to score. He was averaging something like 20 pts back in the Maverick days with Mashburn and Kidd. But now he's learned to play unselfishly, which is awesome for us.

As for consistency, he probably is our most consistent player. At least, as consistent as any shooter can be. When you're shooting lots of 3s, it's impossible to be as consistent as a low-post player.

I think the most important contribution from JJ is his veteran experience, which SF and Cat are lacking somehow. It will be even more valuable in playoff games.

anybody see JJ last night on sports sunday? He was asked how it felt to be praised by a coach like Don Nelson and Jimmy said something like, 'I don't like Don Nelson. I could care less'. pretty funny stuff.

JJ is the rock of this team. He's been more effective than Posey and Rice combined.

Amen, all that has been said. I was going to start a thread entitled, "JJ is a keeper." I don't know why he is so "well-traveled," but I hope he stays here. He is the PERFECT building block around Ming. He is a smart, experienced, mature, and consistent player. He is a stablizing force on the team. Watch him settle guys down during a game. I really really like this guy. I am one of his biggest fans. I just want more guys like him.

Last night on Sports Sunday, he was articulate and insighful. He should be the featured interview on the "NO BULL ZONE." Bullard's comments are usually platitudes. I have been really disappointed in Bullard's lack of candor. Like, "yeah, the team really needs to get better" or "Steve is really a good kid." Wow!

Jimmy Jam is my favorite rocket and I absolutely love what this guy brings to our team. Everytime we played Sacramento I would always be sitting around wishing we had someone like Jimmy. When we singed him I was estatic. He aint overated in my book. Go Rockets!
