Watching the game last night, I was wondering was CD' only mistake this year giving up JJ+Bachbar for Wesley? JJ is taller, stronger and more eager and used to be the 3rd option of this team
if we had jj instead of wesley we probably had better change against dallas in the playoffs.. in the regular season, it just looks like we began winning after trading JJ/Nachbar for wesley.. I think wesley could have done better in the playoffs..
we were a better team with Welsey than we were with Jackson and Boki that trade was far from a mistake
Oh boy, to make it simple, it wasn't a mistake. Wesley is a better perimeter defender than JJ, the trade allowed TMac to move to SF where he wouldn't have to chase SGs around all night.
Wesley does the thankless work on the team that JJ wouldn't/couldn't do-- namely defend the other team's best perimeter player every game. Also, I believe the decision was made that T-Mac had to be moved to small forward, and JJ couldn't bring to the table what Van Gundy wanted from the 2. I know there's been speculation that JJ played as if he was better than he actually is, but the word was last year that he was nicknamed "coach's pet" so I don't think we'll ever know if he and JVG had an actual MoT-style falling out before the trade. JJ's shooting was practically as streaky as Wesley's, but he didn't play as smart and of course the defense wasn't nearly the same. And we had to get Boki off the roster since we had so much crap on the bench already. JJ ended up on the Suns, so basically the trade actually worked out well for everyone involved.
1) the team got better immediately after the trade 2) there is a reason someone you had to wait until round 2 of the playoffs before bringing this up (can anyone guess)
It wasn't a mistake at all. I'm happy for Jimmy because I really liked him as player but you can't argue with the results we got from Wesley. His playoff numbers weren't great but I think it was the first step to getting that great chemistry everybody was talking about.
Do you know what our record was with JJ? We were going NO WHERE with JJ here......he thinks he is better then he really is. Thats JJs problem! EDIT: Afterall, there IS a reason he has played for like 13 different teams in his career. He didnt cause any "riffs" publicly, but obviously something wasnt right in the locker-room.
JJ needs the ball in his hands to be effective, D.Wes doesnt. It's same as MJ, when he is hot, it's all good, when he is not, no offense flow. Having said that, I think JJ could have done more than D.Wes gave us in the series against Dallas. It's all moot now, move on folks.
JJ's shooting was off when the season started and his defense was pretty bad against quicker 2's. Getting Wesley got us a better defender and also allowed us to upgrade our SF to megastar status. JJ's defense is perfect for the Suns.
I tend to remember, that wesley didn't make an immediate impact. we started winning when Sura got better and began to play, or are my timelines all farked up?
Jim Jackson had caught a fatal disease for a role player, the primary symptom being: he had come to think he was better than he actually was. Jackson, towards the end of his stay, didn't think of himself like Jon Barry or Bob Sura. He thought of himself as a 3rd star. Maybe even the 2nd star. He didn't defer to Tracy and Yao. He took bad shots. When this happened, he became worthless to us.
What everyone else has said.... plus T-Mac wanted him gone...The mans been on 100s of teams for a reason and it's not because of his great D Yeah I'm still pissed that he missed that WIDE open 3 to win game 1 in the 2004 playoffs Vs. the Lakers
JJ NEVER did that in Houston. I NEVER wanted JJ to drive to the basket. He screwed up..did not seem to be able to dribble. He was slow..and his shot was slow.. Now he looks great..quick and fit... I don't want JJ back. It's good that he's doing good.
It wasn't a mistake, we needed a change, and the change was good, we had a 50 win season, I don't think that would of happened if Jimmy Jack would of stayed.
