Fly on, Jimi. Angel came down From heaven yesterday, Stayed with me just long enough To rescue me.... And she told me a story yesterday; About the sweet love Between the moon and the deep blue sea. Then she spread her wings high over me. She said, Ill come back again to see you tomorrow.... And I said fly on, my sweet angel. Fly on through the sky. Fly on, my sweet angel. Tomorrow Im gonna be by your side.... Sure enough, This woman came home to me. Silver wings silhouetted against a childs sunrise.... And my angel, She said unto me, today is the day for you to rise. Take my hand, youre gonna be my mind, And she took me high over yonder..... And I said fly on, my sweet angel. Fly on through the sky. Fly on, my sweet angel. Tomorrow Im gonna be by your side....
Old enough to have voted against Nixon. I saw Jimi and the Experience three times and with Band of Gypsies once. Also saw the Doors, the Jefferson Airplane, Buffalo Springfield, Canned Heat, Fleetwood Mac, when Peter Green played with them, and just about anyone else you can think of from the era. Jimi dying was one of the great shocks of my life. He is unequaled as a guitar player. No one will ever come close to him. I just wish technology had existed back then to record his concerts with any kind of fidelity. You just have no idea how good he really was. And he was left-handed... he had to play his Strat upside down, restrung. His hands were enormous. What a loss. Who knows what Hendrix might have produced had he lived.
I've often thought this myself. IMHO, he would have become like Miles Davis with a guitar...a heady mix of jazz and rock with a little blues thrown in. He would have continued to break through boundaries of music. It would have been nice.
Totally Agree. There are so many artists that I think could have collaborated with Jimi to make some unreal music. I've always had this feeling that Hendrix and Prince together would be so dynamic.
