Didn't see this anywhere and heard it on Rome today. Lebron wants $1M from NBA to be in the All-Star Dunk contest.

I see nothing wrong with asking, but I think the NBA should tell him to stick it where the sun don't shine. NIKE should be the one coughing up the dough as his sneeker sales will increase if he becomes the Dunk champ.

    No million

James denied a report in Sunday's New York Daily News that he asked for $1 million to compete in the slam dunk contest.
"I haven't asked for that," he said. "I have enough millions right now. If I feel comfortable about doing it, I'll do it."
James said the deciding factor will be his ankle.
"The same thing happened last year," he said. "I hurt my ankle before All-Star weekend. It was a no-brainer that I wasn't going to do it. It's all up to how I'm feeling."
James said there's no deadline for telling the NBA whether he'll be in the dunk contest.
"If I show up with shorts and shoes, I'll be able to do it," he joked.

The "Rising Stars" thing is crap. The NBA acts like the dunk contest has just become uncreative, but who in HELL wants to see guys like Chris Anderson and Fred Jones duke it out, most people haven't even heard of the contestants.

    Imagine this contest:

    Lebron James
    Vince Carter
    Jason Richardson
    Steve Francis
    Desmond Mason

No stupid wheel of fortune, just go out and them put on a show.

    my personal wish list:

    Lebron James
    Kobe Bryant
    Vince Carter
    Jason Richardson
    Steve Francis
    Tracy McGrady

if one can't make it: Desmond Mason

its the players fault the dunk contest has fallen as far as it has.

the great players in the game use to live to be able to compete in the contest. now its too much of a hassle for todays players.

maybe i'm crazy but i wouldn't pick him to win if jason richardson or desmond mason is in it. i think lebron is the best in the game dunker but i don't know if he has the tricks that guys like richardson have. also, it's so easy to miss a few and lose.

None of these guys wants to go to the Dunk Contest because they are afraid they will "look bad" or get outplayed. It is all about image.

I'd like to see a high-dunk competition. I have no idea who would be best at that though... Garnett/Amare maybe?

its a shame because there hasnt been a good competition since 2000 when vince, francis, mcgrady were in it. one year was ruined by the wheel of fortune and they've trimmed down the competition each year and made it shorter. it is a joke that freddy jones won it last year when he had to take a score of a dunk he missed.

for some reason i dont think james would be too good in the contest the kid is an amazing dunker but i dont know if he would be as creative as richardson, mason, carter are. but it would still be fun to see him participate

Did you watch the last couple minutes of the Rookie All-Star Game last year? LeBron would easily win the dunk contest.

LeBron can jump really high, but his dunks only look good in a game. In a dunk contest, it's all about form and creativety. The between the leg dunk LeBron did in last Rookie game was ugly as hell.

I think Josh Smith will win this year. He is only 6-8, but he can jump really high and stay in the air long enough to pull out some fancy stuff.

The reason this competition blows now is because there are no more new dunks. Everything is the same ol throw it up-catch it- spin-reverse-slam crap.

They should raise the basket to 11 or 12 feet and have the contest.
