So, I sumbitted a email question to Jim Boylen's Coaches's Corner and I received a nice email response from fanmail@rocketball saying "Thank you for submittng your question to Coach Boylen. Please respond with your name and where you're from, and we'll put his answer to your question on the site. I responded promptly with an email giving my name and city. I have yet to see Jim Boylen answer any questions at all. What gives?
I submitted a question for Carroll Dawson and it didn't get answered for awhile. And then a link eventually popped up on the CD page for his answers and my question did get answered (though not to my satisfaction). It could just be that their waiting for at least a second question to be submitted before they turn out any answers -- it'd look too pathetic if they only had one question to answer. Everyone at cc.net should flood Jim Boylen with questions. This way we can (1) make Jim feel really popular; (2) help the Rockets increase fan interaction; (3) get some party-line answers that don't get us any closer to the truth than we already were. ------------------ RealGM Gafford Art Artisan Cakes
jamcracker, this has been discussed alot about how they use the pick differently. I don't see it though. At the beginning of the season Francis often went baseline alot, with the coaches blessing, but of late he has been going over the top. He does not ignore the pick. Teams often take away the pick and force him to go baseline because he is most effective when he can get over the pick. ------------------ (Only editing to see if the forum is working) [Note: This message has been edited by Clutch]
What was the question? I've noticed the Rockets running more and more pick and roll plays for Francis and Mobley. Usually a power forward sets a pick near the top of the key. (I think I've heard Rudy call this play "24 High"?) Mobley appears to make much better use of the pick and roll than Francis. It seems like Francis always either ignores the pick and goes baseline or shoots a quick shot behind the pick. I rarely see Francis use the pick to drive down the lane and rarely see Francis pass to the picker. It seems like Mobley both drives the lane and kicks the ball to the picker more often than Francis. Why do Francis and Mobley run this high pick and roll play so differently? Do the coaches tell them to run it differently? Do opposing defenses play Francis and Mobley differently? Do both players have the same options, but just make different decisions? [This message has been edited by jamcracker (edited March 07, 2001).]
I just sent a letter: "cwebb or mo tay, beee-yyyyyootttch". I'm sure I'll get an informative response regarding all of the offseason plans for this summer. ------------------ git it tag, git it!
Boylen is one of the primary architects of this offense, and I'd agree is the perfect person to ask. I doubt he'd give Feigan an answer to that, but he could be cryptic and at least give you the party line. No answer just makes you never want to go back to the website. You might get a quicker response by asking him something simple like whether Rudy drinks scotch or Guinness at Kinneally's...
