    Turnovers are driving him crazy.
    Rafer is doing great.
Battier is probaly going to start.
Rafer, Battier, and Chuck are good defensive players.
Steve Francis b****es too much to the refs.

The new coach is sounding a lot like the old coach nowadays, no? Sure, they have different schemes, but sometimes, a coach is a coach is a coach. Adelman is going to do and say a lot of things people b****ed about Van Gundy doing (like not always being Clyde-Drexler-happy about all the players and leaving some people's pet player out of the rotation once the real games start).

That, in particular, sounded a lot like JVG.

It is actually a very generic statement.

No, he just sounded like any other NBA head coach. Let's face it, no NBA coach likes excessive turnovers and players making the same mistakes.

This is not a knock on Gundy.

With that said, I find the thread starter sounds a lot like Van Gundier.

Atleast Adelman has hair, and that proves that he doesn't overstresses himself to the point of insanity, even though I have yet to see him smile

The "attention to detail" phrase is something I heard a lot from JVG. But I guess you're right, this is pretty generic coach-speak.

Of course they are going to say similar things. So would most any NBA coach. They are both intelligent basketball coaches and sound basketball doesn't change that much. But oh how their personalities differentiate. What I always felt and what has come to the forefront is how much Jelly Van Gundy was a control freak with a chip on his shoulder and a doghouse bigger than the Houston SPCA Center. In the end he couldn't motivate the team to win the big games and that's why he needed to go.But of course this water under the bridge and we have a new coach and a new outlook.

The point is, there are a lot of things every coach says, but when Van Gundy did it last year, people b****ed about him being "negative" or "grumpy."

For example, Van Gundy at times have talked about what the team needed to do better even after wins, and people would b**** about him destroying the confidence of players. Van Gundy would talk about how certain guys were playing casual during garbage time, and people would b**** about him being negative about meaningless minutes and not let players have fun.

Guess who is trying to correct mistakes made in meaningless practices and exhibition games now?

The new coach isn't going to be any more like DaDakota cuddling 12-year-olds than the old one was.

I think his point is that the same things you guys praise Adelman for, are the same things why JVG was bashed. Also just like JVG, you won't see Adelman smile very much during the season. The days of the "happy" coach are over. Las time I saw a coach as excited as his players was with Rudy T.

No one said JVG didn't have good coach speak.

WTF is wrong with you that you would post something like that?

    I am unbelivably offended.

This is wrong on SOOOOO many levels.......You should be banned.

i was a little surprised that coach mentioned rafer as one of the good defenders. i live in austin and dont get to see that many games, but from what i have seen, he is anything but a good defender.

    am i wrong?

are compliments to his d and the fact that he is apparently starting attempts to pump up trade value?

Starting Rafer or praising Rafer seem to be traits they're currently sharing, but doing great? You must have conveniently missed any season of Rafer-Van Gundy.

Let's hope they don't also share first round exits courtesy of Rafer.

Statistically speaking, Rafer isn't a bad defender at all. Certainly not "terrible" or "worthless" as he's characterized.

However, I do think Mike James is a much superior defender.

doing great means he is doing his job and doing it well, no? hasnt rafer been doing that so far?

when rafer doesnt/isnt relied upon to score, he does very well. Unfortunately scoring is all there is to basketball ;) .

And rafers D is underrated. Sure, he isnt a lock down guy type of guy, but he stays with his man fairly well. And he really is good on help defense and his quick hands cause a lot of turnovers
