Because controversy has been the only reason why she's a bestseller and -- by extension -- a very wealthy woman. She has absolutely nothing else to offer, but she knows exactly what to say and when to say it so she can sell more books.
When I think the modern day representation of Christ, his message and all he stood for, Anne Coulter always is the first and best example I can think of.

Why, on God's green earth, would anyone think she would know better? She is the picture of intolerance. And, as long as her chosen party refuses to disown her, it is too. She is a professional hate monger. And it's a shame it took a direct attack on Jews for Jewish people to speak out against her.
I don't quite get the outrage on this one. How could what she said be construed as an attack on Jews? Would you agree that the majority of followers of almost every religion think everyone would be better off if they converted to that person's religion? Isn't that a central tenet of most religions? She didn't say Jews were evil, didn't advocate violence against Jews, she just said she thinks they'd be better off as Christians. I have a hard time defending AC b/c she is normally a vapid and publicity-seeking idiot but in these remarks I sure do see a group of people eager to get offended. PS: Anyone think this would be a topic if she said Buddhists or Muslims would be better off as Christians?
the problem though is that every time he says stuff like this he gets 15 more. controversy is his only way to get attention.

Really? You don't think the average Christian thinks non-Christians would be better off as Christians? Same for Muslims? Heck, even Buddhism (as is my understanding at least), while not exactly evangelical, teaches that to reach true enlightenment requires following the path of Buddha.

I've never known any Catholic (or any other kind of Christian) that held this belief, from my mom who ran my hometown church's school to priests and Catholic/Protestant professors. They at least didn't hold this belief so fervently (as if it was a "central tenet") that they would make this known to other people. It's archaic (and impractical) thinking to most... I can see why you would think this was prevalent in Christianity, since the people who make the news are usually the fringe, self-righteous buffoons, like Pat Robertson or Bill Donohue (from the Catholic League).
Right about Muslims (whom she's been directly slurring for a while), wrong on the other two groups. And Jewish people have about 6 million reasons to be "sensitive."

This is pretty tame compared to some of the crap that's plopped from her mouth in the past. Why would a Christian, or any non-Jew, think Judaism is perfect? It is kind of funny how these hardline, Christian zealots need to do rhetorical backflips just to not look like a hypocrite. If a Jewish state was formed in American territory instead of the Middle East, she'd be the first in line calling for it to be "wiped from the map".
