Did anyone else read today's Chronicle article about Jew Don Boney going to the Democratic Convention in LA on Houstonians' tax money??

He took a ton of criticism from Orlando Sanchez and other council members who questioned the use of public money to attend a political convention, especially considering that the race for a city council position is not a partisan one.

Interestingly enough, Mayor Brown and Councilman Robinson went to the convention as well...on their own dime!!!!

Next time someone tells you it's ridiculous to spend public money on stadiums, tell them it's even more ridiculous to keep electing a man who uses taxpayer money to jetset to LA.

Jew Don Boney is without a doubt the worst city councilmen we have, now that Helen Huey is no longer one!

Is his first name 'Jew' or do you guys just talk about people in Houston that way... like 'Black Willie Brown', or 'Jew Joe Lieberman'.

    LOL. [IMG]

Believe it or not, the man's first name is actually Jew. I'd love to meet his parents.

Imagine what the Jewish community in Houston thinks of him...

    Gascon,

Nonpartison seat or not, District D is heavily black and heavily Democratic. It has a tremendous business sector. Boney is a liberal urbanist; not some conservative suburbanist.

Republicans often hate Boney. That's a fact. But he does a lot for urban growth. He's our Mayor Pro Tem (unanimously voted by council) and he chairs the Minority/Woman Businesses committee. He has been very instrumental in pushing through tax laws that favor revitalization of downtown, Midtown and other historic urban areas.

As an at-large member, Sanchez has no constituency to lobby for. He is free to ride the waves of any platform in favor.

I don't care if he goes!!! Carroll Robinson went too...own his own dime!!! This is a political convention. He is in a non-partisan seat. What's so hard to understand about this?? His constituency alone doesn't pay taxes...we all do throughout the city. And it's all of our money going to pay for him on this trip. He should not have the power to unilaterally decide that he's using tax money to go to LA. Yes..there was no rule about it..but do you really need a freaking rule to know right from wrong? It's just irresponsible! You know as well as I do that if Bettencourt or Polland had done this at the Republican conventon, people would have gone nuts!! Hell, just the fact they went to the Republican convention and weren't here to address arena issues pissed people off here! And Sanchez wasn't the only one to get on to him about it. Gabriel Vasquez, a fellow counselman, said, "the idea of spending city dollars to go to a political convention is very questionable and doesn't sit well." It was Vasquez who called this a grey area..not Sanchez. It's only grey because it's not on the books!!! But ethical rules don't necessarily have to be on the books, especially when they involve the spending of tax money.

I have no problem paying for this guy to travel while on city business. But attending the democratic love fest is not city business. Clearly the mayor and Robinson knew this...as did Polland and Bettencourt.

    Max,

Then move to District D and vote him out.

This is not a scandal. And you are wrong about the Mayor's office coming out against it.

The democratic convention is not a love fest.

    Now you are posturing.

So, you still haven't told me what District you are from.

I absolutely, 100% believe Boney should go to those meetings at the Democratic Convention. Damn man, he is my representative. That travel came out of his office budget. That is my budget as well.

You just don't get it. Issues important to District D are heavily represented by the Democratic Convention. I want my council member there, and I want him to have a budget for it.

Madmax, just curious if you were outraged about Rob Todd's junket to Cancun? Tax dollars didn't pay for it but it was clearly a conflict of interest for him to accept it.

I used to listen to Jew Don Boney's show on the radio and found it comical for the most part. I loved how he helped propogate the white man vs. the black man "saga". During the Malcolm X "fad" a few years ago, he was at the forefront on his radio show telling everyone that if blacks don't gain equality, they may have to take things into their own hands. He always stopped short of stating he wanted to go to war. I believe it was during the summer after the Rodney King beating that he kept stating that it was going to be a "long, hot summer". I could be wrong about the incident, but I believe it was after King's beating. Anyone white was suspicious and shouldn't be immediately trusted was the impression I got from his radio show back then (of course, that's left to interpretation). When someone called to voice his opinion about how something Jew Don agreed with was wrong, he would argue with the caller (usually, it was a pro-government-status-quo or pro-white stance). However, if someone called to say something off the wall, yet was pro-black, he would just say "ok" and move on in a natural progression.

Then somewhere along the way, he became a "nice guy". LOL. Politics is funny. I find it more humorous than many sit-coms I watch nowadays. Jew Don is an example. Of course, he is a very well-spoken individual and very intelligent; for that at least I give him credit. His show made people think, albeit sometimes in deceptive and subtle ways. If nothing else, he's interesting.

FYI, regarding my above post, I just remembered it was the Gary Graham news story that prompted Jew Don to make those remarks, not the Rodney King beating.

Didn't Rick Perry like travel the globe on the taxpayers' dime? Then he admitted it, but blamed it on Democrat State Comptroller (at the time) John Sharp.

Jew Don Boney is my representative in City Hall. It is my experience that he does an excellent job representing his constituency--one of the most diverse districts in Houston, including Third Ward, Montrose, Sunnyside and parts of Missouri City in Fort Bend County.

I have personally talked to this man over the phone, and his office has twice responded quickly to problems that I called in. Our "block captain" and, to a larger extent, our Montrose community Winlow Place also receives a great deal of attention from his office. I find he does an excellent job balancing the needs of a huge amount of businesses (including the medical center) as well as a diverse residential populace.

We reelected him at 87% across this diverse district.

Can you please tell what part of Houston you live in and why you want to get rid of my council member.

Easy...he used OUR tax money to go to a political convention. He's receiving criticism from the Mayor's office and other council members. We've had enough scandals at City Hall in the last few years, don't you think??? It's time to start holding these guys accountable. I'm sorry, but I do not appreciate him using city money to go to LA to a partisan convention when he is in an elected position that is non-partisan.
