Turns out ol Jessica was pinned in the auto accident and her gun jammed. She put up no resistance. Great pr story. Little blonde fights Muslim men till ammo ran out. No wonder the guy got to be an Admiral. In an April 3, 2003 story, The Military Times, a specialist newspaper, quoted Navy Capt. Frank Thorp as saying Lynch waged quite a battle prior to her capture. At the time, Thorp was one of the U.S. military’s senior spokesmen in the Persian Gulf. Now a rear admiral, he serves today as a deputy to Dorrance Smith, the Pentagon's public relations chief. (Smith was not head of public affairs at the time Lynch was captured.) "We do have very strong indications that Jessica Lynch was not captured very easily ... Reports are that she fired her [M-16 rifle] until she had no more ammunition,” Thorp said at the time, shortly after Lynch was retrieved from an Iraqi hospital by U.S. forces. Until now, the Military Times account, apparently the only story that quotes a military official by name recounting the tale that Lynch went down while firing back at the enemy, has been overlooked in the debate over Lynch's treatment; http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18368821/site/newsweek
I'm sure you are aware this is old news. Very soon after her rescue, she set the record straight. I guess the press didn't publish this loud enough for most people because I thought the issue was completely dead until her recent testimoney. The misinformation involved was inexcusable and shameful. Anybody who denies that is incapable of thinking for themselves. But it all pales in comparison to the Tillman episode.
You are right, the Tillman situation is much worse. However, as far as I know nobody involved in the whole Tillman pr after his death has been promoted to general or admiral. If I'm right, the whole military got positive pr off of Tillman, even after he died at his funeral etc. Of course since the coverup keeps unravelling I guess they wish they had not tried to cover up the Tilllmon case and spin it to their pr advantage.
