I think the Rockets should take a serious look at signing this guy. We all know he's a good rebounder, but he's proving to be a versatile defender in the playoffs against NY. Toronto used him at times to guard Sprewell and Houston, and both players had subpar games. The guy is a hustler and a FOF (friend of Francis) - two things that would make his integration into our lineup easy. Furthermore, his defensive-mindedness would make him the ideal complement (much more so than KT) to Mo. We could probably sign both players to reasonable contracts. More than another offensive superstar, the Rockets need a couple more garbage players whose focus is on taking out the other team's players. And before you underrate the importance of these players, just look what Doug Christie and Bobby Jackson have done for Sacramento. Even more telling, just look what P.J. Brown (the epitome of a garbage player) did against Miami - he completely took Mason out of the series. Without his toughness and defense, Charlotte would not have swept. BTW, I hope the Rockets take a good look at that series - while Charlotte has several players who are excellent at isolation (Mashburn, Davis, Wesley), they expended greater energy on defense (which was just awesome) and fast break points. This is the kind of play that can make the Rockets a legit playoff team, and I think Jerome Williams could be a major move toward that. Just my humble opinion. ------------------
Man, the guy's got heart. ------------------ "They couldn't shoot, rebound, or pass, but other than that, they played great!" -Bill Walton
I agree Jerome Williams would be a good addition. As a draft pick, wrong forum I know, take a look at Tarvis Williams, Hamption Univ. He has already been compared to Jerome Williams. ------------------
Yes, yes, yes!! We do need Jerome Williams. He would be a tremendous addition to the Rockets who would fit in perfectly. Go Junkyard Dog! ------------------ My dream job is to be a Houston Rockets towel boy.
I like what TheCat (or someone else has proposed) that if we can't attact Webber but re-sign Mo, we should sign Jerome Williams as Mo T's backup to provide the defense, rebounding that Mo lacks. ------------------
I completely agree, subtomic. The Rockets have enough scoring from their backcourt, and at times, from the front court. It is defense that wins games, specially in the playoffs. At times during the season, the defensive intensity was not there and that is why the Rockets lost to teams like the clippers and nets during the last stretch of the season. The Rockets need the blue collar worker to get inside, be physical, and always give 110%. During the championship years, the Rockets had that in Otis Thorpe. Jerome Williams would fit the bill perfectly, and if we dont get CWEBB, I certainly hope we give this guy a serious look. ------------------
