Looking to shake up the Rockets roster a bit? How about a potential "bad contract for bad contract" trade in Juwon Howard to NY for Jerome Williams.

Willliams initially was getting very little time on the NY bench behind Thomas and Sweetney and I figured he would be someone we might be able to obtain.

After reading this article below and seeing what Williams is starting to bring to NY, it makes me want to try to go after him even more. Although if NY is seeing his benefits recently perhaps now it is too late. Just read the article below and see if what Williams is doing in NY is something that would be a HUGE asset here.

Again, no one is saying Williams would be a blockbuster addition. Just move Howard for a similar contract in which that player at least brings something NEW to the table.

Jerome has big fan in Marbury
    By PETER BOTTE
    DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITER

As long as Stephon Marbury is burying three pointers, Jerome Williams is not going to generate many headlines with his play.

But you definitely can count Marbury in the growing legion of Williams fans. Marbury, whose five three-pointers in the second quarter ignited the Knicks to their 90-82 win over Memphis last night, said his exploits were "nothing" compared to the energetic boost Williams typically provides off the bench.

In 17 minutes, Williams scored nine points - all in the fourth quarter - and played tenacious defense that contributed to the fouling out of Memphis' Pau Gasol.

"Man, I love him. Whenever you have a guy who comes off the bench and gives you that energy, and plays with that flair, and that hunger, you gotta love it," Marbury said. "I feel that's the ultimate, because I'm all about that. (He's) just trying to win. He's perfecting his role, and when someone is perfecting his role you have to basically show homage to that."

Williams, who was a throw-in in the summertime Jamal Crawford trade with Chicago, didn't figure to have much of a role as the Knicks broke training camp. But with his socks high, and his energy level higher, the backup power forward has worked his way into Lenny Wilkens' playing rotation with an average of 13.5 minutes per game.

"I love his energy. He's a great asset because he makes things happen," Wilkens said. "When he comes in, he brings energy and enthusiasm, and it becomes contagious."

It probably doesn't hurt Williams' standing that he was one of few Raptors players who stood up for Wilkens after the coach's dismissal in Toronto. But Williams' ability to defend at any of the forward positions, and his reputation as "a pest who won't go away," as Wilkens put it, make him a valuable role player on a good team.

"I take every day in this uniform as a blessing. Whether it's two minutes or 20 minutes, I'm not going to stop," Williams said. "I don't think I'm annoying, it's just decent play. The fans, the Dog Pound, gets riled up. I'm just doing what I do. Playing good 'D,' give the team a lift, get some stops. I'm not out there to frustrate people ... I just want to have fun when I'm out there."

Said Marbury: "What I did basically was nothing compared to what (Williams) did. To come down on the offensive end and get those points the way that he did, it was electrifying."

Imagine the kind of impact a role player such as Jerome Williams would have on a team like the Rockets! Getting someone like Williams would be similar to when we had Posey. A good defensive forward. Williams brings energy EVERY night and brings toughness. Sure his offensive game is limited but with all the other things he brings to the table you can put up with it.

Juwon Howard for Jerome Williams is exactly the type of deal CD needs to make. And if we can then make ANOTHER deal for an Antonio Daniels or be ULTRA lucky and be able to obtain a Chandler or someone like that then so be it. But on a team that is lifeless and soft Williams would be a godsend!

    Thoughts?

Always like JYD's game. He may not have the size, but you got to love his athleticism and energy he provides.

Not sure if NY would bite though. Howard deal is bigger and longer, NYK are filled with bad contracts, I doubt they want to add another.

Plus, they already have guys like Mohammad, Sweetney, K. Thomas, T. Thomas, not a whole lot of room for Juwan.

But I would do it in a second.

Does he really give us that much over Spoon? I agree that the Knicks probably don't want Juwan unless they ship out some of their other PFs. Maybe a three-way could do it, but I'm not convinced it's the right move for us. I'd rather trade Juwan for an overpaid player at another position.

JYD brings so much energy off the bench it's insane. He does a lot of things well, and like the article said, it's contagious. He gives off energy to the other guys.

The only thing Spoon can give off is a double cheeseburger, and you might get murdered if you try to take it from him.

Sure try, but it sounds like the Knicks will not give him up.

They are a winning team now....

    Ugh !!

Junk Yard Dog? I wish we could get him. Just like somene said, no way NY is gonna do that trade. Jerome brings a lot to the team when he steps on the court. He defends well, he rebounds well, not to mention the energy lvl he provides. Plus, Jerome is a very nice guy. He gives so much back to local communities wherever he goes. He got nice rounds of applause and cheers when he checked in during the game at Toronto the other day.

If this junkyard dog becomes as valuable as the last junkyard dog we had imagine the possibilities! I am all for it since JH is just growing mold on our bench right now

    That's a good find, JoeBarelyCares.

It looks like Howard and Jerome Williams' contracts are fairly similar. I still can't believe how fast Howard's stock has dropped - I mean he started out slow, but hit over 49% from the field in his last 9. I think the problem is Mo and Howard are just so limited defensively and on the boards that having both of them gives JVG so few options.

Yeah, the contract similarities is the main reason why I proposed the deal. I think Howard's is just a year longer.

I agree that it is amazing that Howard's stock has fallen so sharply. I dont think he is as bad as the situation is making it out to be. I think most people thought he would be the STARTING PF on this team this season.

Howard isnt the greatest but surely there are a few teams in the league that could use him. He seems like a good locker room veteran and he can score. He just doesnt ADD anything to this team with Mo here.

Jerome Williams is a good fit here. I am not so sure the fit for the Knicks and Howard is as good, but they might see him as a better talent upgrade and as a good veteran role player.

The reality with Jerome in NY is that the Knicks are VERY high on Sweetney and are going to continue to give up a lot of minutes. Kurt Thomas still starts at PF and Nazr gets big minutes at Center. And dont forget they STILL have Vin Baker on the roster. Williams would be better served on the Rockets.
