The Pacers reportedly have discussed a trade with Toronto that would send Jermaine O’Neal to the Raptors for a package that would include the No. 1 pick.

The Pacers, according to Mark Murphy, would likely take Adam Morrison.

Indiana may also be talking with the Timberwolves about a Jamaal Tinsley-for-Ricky Davis deal.

    -----------

Damn, Toronto gets that inside presence and scoring firepower. They can get Bosh to C and O'Neal to PF.

The Pacers might bring Granger up to starting PF, but is Morrison going to start over Peja or S. Jackson?

i hope it does not happen...the guy is always injured...plus Bosh plays the same game.

Better be for the number one and Chris Bosh or Villanueva. Otherwise, the Pacers are downright stupid.

Wow, this would be interesting. I just can't believe that Toronto would be able to get that type of value for the #1 pick this year.

I wonder how this would shake things up... If Toronto trades out of the #1 spot without getting a top 5 pick in return, then what happens to Bargnani? Would he drop or are other teams as high on him as Toronto is?

If it was for the number one AND Chris Bosh, that would probably be the most lopsided trade in quite sometime - so probably not.

But still, it doesn't make sense to have both Bosh and Oneal in the post. If they're playing together, O'neal will have to change his game.

Yup. That settles it. What better endorsement for the "Next Larry Bird" moniker than one that comes from Larry Legend himself, trading the franchise player for the top pick so he can be sure to land this guy (unless Fry is included, in which case scratch everything I said).

Well, I was exaggerating a bit. All I'm saying is that the number one pick this year has nowhere near the value of a Jermaine O'Neal.

Depends on how we look at the word "value", I guess.

Jermaine makes, what?, $18 million per year? And he's always hurt?

The Pacers had a chance to win the East before the Indiana-Detroit basketbrawl incident. Might as well start over. Bird and Carlisle can make their imprint (*cough* white guys! *cough*) on the team.

EDIT: You can bet Isiah Thomas picked up the phone, knowing Jermaine was on the block. It might make more sense for O'Neal to the Knicks, with, say, Francis and Q-Rich and those NY picks to the Raptors (they have cap space and need depth and already have Bosh).

In such a scenario, Larry the Legend and Isiah Smile-Brite would have to put aside animosity.

Didn't Larry Legend do the "Next LB" already with Austin Crochere?

BTW - if this deal goes down (more likely with Bulls than Raps BTW) spell it $$$ relief for Indy.

Bosh is basically a younger, cheaper version of Jermaine O'neal...no way they are trading him. This would be a downright stupid deal for Indiana. Quick way to sink the franchise for a while...even if they get Villenueva and Morrisson out of it.

Trading a top 15 guy (JO) for two guys in the 50-100 range (Villanueva and Adam Morrison) would be a horrible move for the Pacers.

    it won't happen

Unless Pacers management wants to cut the payroll instead of playing to win.

    :(

I think Chad Ford at ESPN insider just made this up and lots of people are repeating it.

Wow, three years ago, it would have been O'neal and ___,_____, for Francis, imo.

bosh and jermaine o'neal are not the same player. I like Bosh, but he doesn't show any sign of being the force o'neal. o'neal has a classic post game, plus he can face up. bosh is more of a bigger small forward, and jermaine o'neal is more of a center.

Bird said a couple months ago that they will not be trading J. O'neal, and that no team would be able to offer enough for him. I sure as hell wouldn't trade him. Pacers are still a great team but their weakness isn't in Oneal.
