not sure if adding jermaine o'neal's corpse does much for boston. it doesn't play very well these days. at least sheed's corpse could make the occasional backbreaking 3.

    O’Neal to sign with Celtics
    By Adrian Wojnarowski, Yahoo! Sports

Free-agent center Jermaine O’Neal(notes) has reached agreement to sign with the Boston Celtics, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

O’Neal had been deliberating between the Celtics and Denver Nuggets.

Boston needed a center to help fill in for Kendrick Perkins, who is expected to be out five to six months with a severe knee injury. Rasheed Wallace also has indicated he plans to retire.

After falling one game short of winning their second NBA championship in three years, the Celtics have been active in free agency to solidify their roster for another run.

The Celtics reached agreement on a two-year, $20 million contract with Ray Allen on Wednesday, five days after giving Paul Pierce a four-year, $61 million extension. Coach Doc Rivers also announced last week he would return for another season.

O’Neal, 31, averaged 13.6 points and 6.9 rebounds for the Heat last season.

Yet, they're still contenders, unlike the Rockets.

Just not a good fit IMO. Perkins is better, Wallace probably offered more in the way of changing up the game, causing confusion. A wing might been the better way to go.

Good signing. He's a big that can defend and rebound and post. They play on playing the Lakers again so you can never have enough big guys.

Look at all the ridiculous contracts handed out to bigs like Amir Johnson and Darko and this is not a bad signing. Boston has locked themselves into this current group for the next 2 years, after those years only Rondo and Pierce will be under contract, they will have the flexibility to rebuild.

He should've stayed with the Heat. The Heat could use all the big men help available and he would have gotten more minutes. He's washed up but he can still anchor the paint (kinda).

2 years $12 million with the Celtics starting center (since Perkins is done for next season) or the veteran's minimum? Hmmmmmmmmm

Not a bad pick up. The Celtics basically just need big bodies down low who can defend.

Also interesting to note that the Celtics will have Garnett, Allen, and O'Neal all coming off the books in two years. I guess they are committed to that being their window with the current team.

He should have waited to see if Lebron signs with the Heat.

Starting center for the Heat and having a chance to play with Wade, Lebron and Bosh with better chances of winning a championship might out weigh a few extra million dollars considering the amount of money he's already made throughout his career. At least I though....

Even with Lebron the Celtics still have a better chance.

A few extra million? You do realize that minimum salary for a veteran is about $1.2 million right? $12 million over 2 years versus $2-3 million over 2 plus a CHANCE (not a guarantee) at winning a championship?
